Another interesting wildcard is William Barker with over 15% via Camelot Capital. Together with Polvsen they are tbh a reassuring presence on the register as buffer against Ashley, who let's be honest is a bit of vulture who thrives on distress. Barker has an average higher than most on here I'm sure, can't see him allowing any shenanigans. Also a hedge fund manager so not short of cash. If he starts increasing his stake too I'll know we're really cooking on gas.

It's pretty reasonable to discuss possibility of an offer in light of Povlsen increasing his stake.

This isn't like the typical sh*tco on lse where rampers will speculate about a takeover based on sheer hopium. The major shareholder is worth $12bn+ (according to Wikipedia). He's only 2% away from an offer being mandatory. He's clearly is an ultra long term investor, this being a plc arguably doesn't match his MO. Bestseller A/S has always been a private company.

I am sure someone will reply by saying it won't happen because of (insert reason). And yes ultimately who knows, none of us can know what his intentions are. Fun to speculate though.

Ultimately Ashley is in this to make a profit. Can't see any good reason for him to want block Polvsen, if offer came and was one he was happy with. If anything it will be very hard for him to ultimately exit without getting an offer for his shares - selling his holding to market the regular way would destroy the price.

See how N Brown played out - he was a large shareholder there too, largest shareholder offered premium buyout, he accepted, company gets taken private. All very clean and simple.

Boohoo different, seems much more personal due to Debenhams history and hostility with the Kamami family. Way I see his Asos holding is he's simply here to make a profit, like the rest of us.

In similar position, bought in on Monday as posted at time. Funny how the picture has changed so quickly in a few trading days. At start of week this felt like a risky bet - albeit oversold and worth a punt - but Polvsen buy coupled with trading update today both gamechangers.

Ashley might be a bit of an unsavoury character , but having him increasing his stake right now can only be good news for share price going forward. Only so much so much stock to go round if these goliaths want to battle it out.

It seems market had simply got this one wrong. Expectations were so low, it really was priced for disaster, so to indicate positive trading and "significant improvement in profitability" should result in strong re-rate from here.

Povlsen upping his stake has to be good news. Far better calibre of investor than Ashley.

That's the good news, that there's been nothing significant in public domain to justifies this type of absolute rout.

On the other hand halving in value in 6 weeks is not normal and hedge funds/retail panic already existed as factors influencing price well before this specific freefall.

This has now become a very binary bet on forthcoming results/outlook.

If they simply indicate weak trading that would be good news as clearly it's now priced with calamity in mind. Would expect a positive re-rate in that scenario.

On the other hand - if as share price is beginning to imply - there are major banana skins, particularly a covenant breach due to falling below minimum liquidity levels and/or material uncertainty, all bets are off.

Respectfully, the Daily Mail isn't a serious publication at the best of times, let alone holding any sway in the city or enough to move market

Absolute carnage, halving in value in just over 6 weeks. This sort of fall from a FTSE250 company without public news is highly irregular. Don't buy into the idea it can be due to one broker downgrade. All the low quality consumer discretionary UK retailers having a bad time this year but this is next level.

Against my better judgement taken a punt here.

Fair enough it's in a dying sector with a wrecked balance sheet, debt greater than market cap, questionable management and near term risk of covenant breaches. Um why did I buy again? haha. In all seriousness in for the technical bounce only. Sell off feels like margin call somewhere imo so possible short term opportunity. Not a stock to hold long term, sector doomed, watch those stop losses, be ready to bail, only what you can afford to lose etc.

Wonder Mike Ashley makes of all this? So far he's gone easy on Asos, certainly in public compared to shouting match at Boohoo. But he can't be happy.

Frasers aside, on the evidence of last few years we can conclude he's an absolutely terrible investor in these third party companies. Made a bit on Nbrown going private and he's up a tad on Currys, but what with this and Boohoo his overall losses must now be well into 9 figures.

Rare to see a fall this severe and sudden for a FTSE250 level firm without corresponding public news.

I mean clearly fast fashion hard to make an investment case for at the best of times, but the same structural problems in sector arguably equally applied in January when price was almost double this. Starting to indicate Asos specific distress.

I reckon selling pressure is more a hangover from placing. Fair enough there is a still a lot for the company to prove, but I don't think bulk of selling sentiment driven - as news actually net positive this year. In particular there's been a regular seller on the book which to me has had hallmarks of single entity.

OAK Securities issued a lot of shares for enabling/seed funding the placing, wouldn't surprise me if it's them. Other placees look like longer term holders and wouldn't be gaining anything flipping down at this level. Good news is seems they didn't get enough shares to be TR1 level, so only so much damage they can do before they've fully exited.
