Megan1, apologies if I appeared to suggest you were greedy. I was talking in the context of Fear and Greed in the markets. I think that shares move without reason most of the time!. Brexit news hit big time yet nothing actually happened. The resulting £ fx rates did make a difference to GSK's income outlook. I suppose sentiment plays a big part in the outlook but the figures often say something else. Even bad news can be overcome after all GSK was going to run out of product a while back but how things have changed. I suppose the game is to identify when the news and sentiment are much worse than the reality and buy then and wait to sell when everything smells of roses. If I knew it was going to go down then I would have sold too but generally I dont, although I can have an educated guess. I would also have to pick a rebuy point or another home for the dosh and thats not always easy either but some do it daily.

Megan1. Hi, reversing the question, why didnt you sell a month ago? At that time were you thinking there was more to come and the divis are worth holding for or maybe it hadn't reached your profit target. Greed?! I think the market has been doing well lately and that its just easing off a bit. Latest news here was positive although I not sure how it will affect the bottom line. The big boys should be coming back to work too so maybe you will get another chance to sell a £1 higher a bit later on or you could just hold and get 80p for doing nowt!

As for "where else" look at RDSB and CLLN, both have bigger yields whilst the former is more like HSBA in that it pays quarterly and is affected by the $ fx rate and messes with script. grahamsturman, I assume you meant now! Although I think they have been performing well for some time although its not always reflected in the SP. Divi rising since IPO and has been a lot more stable than the SP. Still a bad news story, broker downgrade and a market wobble all at the same time can be useful when you want to add more at a relatively cheaper price. Maybe there will be more opportunities later such as the next round of Brexit talks when there is some meat on the bone.

Morning Queeny, Strangely the multi one was my pick and one of two that Mrs G picked. Tell that guy that its cheaper in Debs (21% off) than Currys. The latter tend to do its own versions of the same things but with a slightly different part number to confuse price checkers I assume. Debs credit card will knock off another 10% but you only have a week to get this offer so might be worth the effort if you bought from Debs. Argos would save more though! We have pushed the buy button online and with the savings can now afford to buy some more Debs shares even if I didnt use them for this particular purchase. Shudda bought one from BHS for a fiver last week never mind the one day warranty! Debs and M&S should get some extra custom assuming there are Debs in the same locations I dont know the overlap, maybe I should. Still there are lots of retailers waiting to take up any slack. Debs SP off a tad, must be due to me buying elsewhere. Saw my first Christmas tree in a shop over the weekend. Shorts were running at around 5% and rose to 5.3% although it come off highs its still above 5% a tad! It did go down, back into the 50's albeit for a "tad" but ended the day up a tad also. In this case the tad is = 0.04% I suppose it depends on if its a metric or imperial tad! This is no BHS just to quell any misunderstanding of any hint that might be perceived, too much debt, yes but so have lots of companies. At least this one is run much better

Matt, unfortunately the genie is out of the bottle now. Others also on the band waggon. The EU needs a common fiscal policy but can you see that happening in the next 12 months, I cant. Maybe the EU is more powerful .... and creative..... and they can get that genie squashed back in the bottle. So is it a case of cut your nose off, on one hand or both your ears, with the other? Lets hope they need some GSK offerings to make it all better.

HKHobo, "it would take a brave investor to sell and run for the hills." Im not suggesting selling, more a case of, there might be a better price to be buying at later. If HSBC is getting smaller it might be more noticeable if they didnt hoover up some shares overall and the dilution wont be good. Not checked recently but have they started to cancel any of the shares yet?

Pokerchips, we dont have to "wait" for Brexit to do deals with others now. We can start that process now. Its easier to get two people to agree something than 28. Even if it starts small and improves as time goes by. As for a nice cosy arrangement, common sense arrangement will do. After all most want somethings that works and to make a little profit. Will both the UK and EU cut off their noses to spite their faces? I doubt it but even if they did who would be most ugly? Hopefully the bluster in public will be for show and the workers behind the scenes will get a working solution on the table. Spikeyj, the end of 2016 is only one quarter away but I expect the UK to become better and the £ to follow. Feds have to raise their rates soon too

Spikeyj, I now have confidence that we will do well out of Brexit once things get finalised and that we can make trade arrangements with anyone for our (UK) benefit and as we become even stronger the £ will rise thus reducing some of the effects. It might take a couple of years to get there but QE was the same in some ways. Make you wonder how well we might be if the politicos just got out of the way.

The HSBC Board finally starting to look after its owners :-) What, by becoming investors in their own shares. Maybe if they had followed you and Busters buying on the lows maybe. Now they are buying on relative highs. Buy backs tend to work against share holders generally in my experience. Give me the cash then I can decide the best place for my money. It would lower my overall cost and I might reinvest some back in here but at least I wont have driven up the SP artificially in the process. Whats going to happen when the buy back stops? SP falls back again! OK maybe not as low as it was. I think my divis might be going back into the pot until Buster starts to gulp every time Christmas is mentioned. OK it might help with tax but that not an issue when you lose money is it. Id rather have a tax problem than not. Those better eps figures, the cynic in me say it affects the bonus for the board more than the shareholders.....!
