Beer prices for local taverns in my area, which is rural, are about the same.
Then there's "Happy Hour", where you can get a cheap American beer for $2.00 (1.6 GBP), and craft beer for $3.75 (ca 3 GBP).
Oregon is the craft beer capital of the USA. My area grows more hops than any area on earth. We're also HUGE on vineyards, Pinots in particular. I am surrounded by hops fields and vineyards. There's, no foolin', over 500 wineries in the Willamette Valley.

One of the old posters from back in the blinkx days sent me a 6 pack of craft beer brewed in the UK (it was delicious). The hops were grown 8 miles from my house. Not kidding.
