The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
7% is the figure that JP Morgan think the BOE base rate will peak at, also that the UK economy is heading for a very hard landing. But VOD is sheltered from this I hear you cry & yes they may be to a certain extent. However, even if VOD is not impacted directly, they may still experience second-hand effects due to the increased price of energy & of goods from suppliers. This could well push inflation even higher, further eroding sales. Whatever is happening out there it's not good news in the short term. Anyone expecting a quick profit here had better think again.
My word I can’t believe the naivety of some investors… “ I'm happy to hang on for 10 years worth of buybacks"
Companies buy back shares spending profits to do so that could have been returned to shareholders.
This ups the profit per share AND the directors hit their targets & get massive bonuses.
Then, they issue more shares & its back to square one, except only the directors have profited.
We’ve seen it time & again, well those who have their eyes open have.
So there we have it & a possible reason for the latest dramatic fall.
Worries that VOD’s possible new bedfellows known as “Three (3)” have major Chinese links spook the markets.
Surely if this was known by the incompetent BOD’s, and with due diligence it must have been, then WTF is going on?
You would have thought if there was money to be made here that the highly paid & entirely incompetent directors of this shambles would be buying as VOD heads under 70p per share. Or do they know something that the ordinary punters don’t?
The ski slope continues.
So my dream last night involved Mr Putin withdrawing his troops & hostilities ending. Then almost immediately Mr Sunak & Mr Bailey announced inflation had been halved to 4%.
Unlikely I hear you all cry but not totally out of the question & just think what either or both would do to share prices.
Come on fellow posters let’s stop the animosity on here, power of positive thought & all that.
Oh & if Putin took a bullet or three would that be all bad?
Vax, you may not be a fan of interest rate rises to curb inflation so I for one would be grateful for your wise words as to how it can be reduced. They are a deliberate ploy by the government to reduce money available for the public to spend, the Gov & BOE are doing this deliberately.
i know i started it with the cat thing but it's getting a bit like "mrs slocombe's *****" on here now. for the youngsters here who don't know, mrs slocombe was a character in a poor british sit com some years back. danielh will remember it i'm sure, no offence meant dh.
Gutter - And there we have it, he won’t be telling us what he thinks anymore.
Well, we’ll all miss this incisive, accurate, worthwhile input from a complete p ratt who doesn’t understand the very basics of stock investing & who is so unaware of showing what a tool he is when he posts.
My wife’s cat has a better grasp of things.
Gutter - You are again incorrect & as Robleo states in his post which is in agreement to my own, an interim is different to a final dividend.
This really is basic stuff that you should try to get a grip of.
May I suggest that you don’t post until you are sure what you are saying is correct, it makes you look like an uneducated fool. Need I say more.
Porsche - Come on don’t be shy, enlighten us as to your understanding.
danielh is quite correct as the next dividend is a Final which is a debt once declared.
My understanding of interim dividends is quite different though.
The payment of an interim dividend is a decision of the directors and no debt due from the company to its shareholders is created at the time that decision is made, so an interim dividend can be cancelled at any time up to its payment. A shareholder’s right to an interim dividend does not arise until the dividend is actually paid.
Porsche perhaps this is where you are getting confused. I think however, that you might just be a total p ratt who does not know the F what you are talking about.
Sadly I agree Karl & my buy order of 68.1p still has 7 business days left to go.
I thought the merger announcement may scupper it but it took Mr Market not long at all to shrug its shoulders & say “So what?”
Think I may drop my buy in price.
