RE: Full steam ahead for 17th2 May 2021 17:00
Bonkers I was keeping it (relatively) simple and used 100% uptake.
Think so far it is in the mid/high 90's and for herd immunity to be even a feasible option we need it to continue at those rates right down through the age groups.
Science I believe are still doing work on what level would be required for this virus (covid 19). Measles for example requires 95% of population immune to achieve herd immunity.
Keep in mind that what we and the scientific world understand so far is vaccination does not cover 100% of all vaccinated 100%.
So before we even look at those choosing not to we are working from less than 100%.
It's largely why there is such a push to encourage/convince each and every adult possible to get jab.
Also why they are seriously talking about vaccination in children (older teens at very least).
99% mortality protection is well and good, however of the virus is allowed to spread through high numbers of under 50's (and there can still be some spread in those over and vaccinated) Then this is when virus can mutate more readily and in time find strains that make vaccine less efficient or not at all.
UK , USA and few other countries are without doubt moving VERY well with vaccination and control of virus.
Science is also moving very well adapting vaccines, creating new ones, finding and developing other methods etc.
We should (for a bit time yet though) remain very vigilant and not become too Blaise.
Any family or friends we have on younger ages definitely encourage all that can to get jab when offered.
Tick tock tick tock just over 2 weeks to my (and many others) return to Cineworld screens :-)
