I'm not invested in any stocks with large interests in Russia. I get it that all stocks will take a hit due to this, but companies heavily invested in Russia could see their investments permanently flushed away. Oil companies might do well from a high oil price, but some with Russian assets could lose there. I believe many German companies are heavily invested in Russia too.

I was hoping for a higher dividend. Hopefully they'll look at fully restoring the dividend in the next Fiscal Year.

That's true, and issuing new shares increases the number of shares in issue. If you issue new shares, and then buy them back, then you've stood still, ie no benefit to anyone. Since nothing changes the buybacks are meaningless.

LTI, I don't understand your argument. If a company issues new stock, increasing the shares in issue, and then buys them back a year later, then shareholders are neither losing, or benefitting. Lloyds shares in issue have hovered around 70 Billion since 2012, I don't see any buyback benefit there, do you?

Cheap stocks are more volatile, since it increases the volume of trades. Lloyds share price would likely be more stable with less shares in issue.

The same place as the current buyback funds lol, does it matter if you buy stock upfront, or buy them back later through buybacks? I don't get the economics behind issuing now and buying back later, unless its to give the impression that buybacks are meaningful. I'm heavily invested in Lloyds, so I'm all for them enhancing their position, but they stopped my dividend due to covid, while still issuing new shares for savings and bonus schemes. I hope they reward shareholders tomorrow, since I think we deserve it.

In Lloyds case I agree, they should stop creating shares for various schemes, and buy them instead. If they want to reduce the shares in issue, then it will take a reverse stock split, possibly 1 for 3. I realise I wouldn't be any better off, but it would probably tidy up the number of shares in issue, then again it might suit Lloyds to be a penny share, and the most traded stock on the FTSE.

Actually there are various options with buybacks, a company can buyback stock and keep it in treasury, or they can scrap the shares they purchase, reducing the shares in issue. If they keep shares in treasury, they still benefit when it comes to dividend distribution, since shares in treasury don't receive the dividend, just the same as scrapping them. My view is that buyback's aren't real unless they meaningfully reduce the shares in issue over the buyback years, not just maintain the same average level.

Indeed, that grates me. If they want to issue bonus shares, why not buy them through the market, rather than conjouring them up and adding to the shares in issue? The buybacks are only meaningful if they lead to a reduction in the long term shares in issue, rather than just removing the shares created for bonus and sharesave schemes.

It's air power where Russia are lacking. Russia are strong on the ground, but are lacking in air power, and air power is most important in modern warfare. The US, and by extension Nato, are strong in electronic surveillance.
