I've just come on, and read back. You're betting the price will rise from 43.449, then? According to Google the Day range hasn't dropped below 43.5p, so not sure if you were correct when you stated 44.449, especially since it took three posts for you to decide on the SB price.

I'm pretty sure this time it's different. Taking over the Crimea wasn't seen as that serious, but taking over the whole of Ukraine hasn't just stepped over the line, it's smashed through it. Look at the sanctions ramping up, every day new sanctions. Companies are cutting ties with Russia like a stampeding herd running from a preditor. I honestly didn't believe Putin would invade Ukraine, even when US and UK intelligence services were telegraphing the upcoming event, because it would obviously be a World changing event. The only thing that'll reverse the current direction, will be Russia withdrawing from Ukraine.
If things carry on the way they are, I fully expect the EU to create an armed forces at least the size of Russia's, and much more technically advanced. Russia have significantly increased the threat to their own national security, is that what they intended?

Watch China drop Russia like hot potatoe, if it impacts Chinese companies doing business with the West. Russia will soon find out, it has no large allies. Of course they can still go on holiday to Syria, Belarus, and build holiday resorts on the Black Sea, although the Ukrainian staff working at the new resorts might slip something into their food.

The sanctions just keep clocking up, the way things are going Russia will be completely squeezed out of the West. Chinese companies will be given the choice, deal with Russia and lose business with the West. I think Putin and his advisors have underestimated the Geopolitical backlash from invading Ukraine. Russia will soon become a lonely country.

They wont give in to him, since he'll just blackmail the west into giving more and more, with nothing in return. Its well know that you don't give in to blackmailers, as they always come back for more. The risk for Putin, threatening armageddon, is that he could encourage the US into a pre-emptive first nuclear strike, with the aim of taking out as much of Russia's strategic arsenal as possible. Putin would know he's taking a massive risk trying to blackmail the US, it wouldn't work and as I've just said, the US might just decide to go for it.

With the number of nukes fired off, radiation would likely spread all over the planet. The survivors would probably be prone to various cancers, since the winds and clouds would carry radioactive particulates everywhere. Apparently Russia alone has 4000 warheads, and the US 3,750. The chances of the war being limited would be remote too, no doubt some would go China's way and they'll be dragged into the holocaust. It's naive to assume that the whole world wont go up in smoke.

If he fires off his nukes, France, the US, and UK combined have enough Nuclear arsenal to wipe out Russia multiple times. In the event of an all out Nuclear Holocaust, the lucky ones will be vaporised; The survivors face "potential firestorms, a nuclear winter, widespread radiation sickness from fallout, and/or the temporary (if not permanent) loss of much modern technology due to electromagnetic pulses.". It wont matter where you are in the world, you'll either die, or face a miserable existence.

It's a meaningless argument, since Trident has a range of 4000 Nautical miles, which means Moscow could be targetted from the middle of the Atlantic. Using the argument that taking over adjacent countries increases protection, is no longer valid.

I think we can safely say that the chances of that are Zero. While Russia hold Ukraine, the West will not resume diplomatic relations with Russia. Have you paid attention to the sanctions coming into force? Russia will be on their own going forward, the EU will likely transorm into a military power, probably becoming the next superpower. Putin has changed the World, I don't understand why everyone can't see that.

I've read that Chinese companies are avoiding dealing with Russia, for fear of falling foul of US sanctions. China make most of their income trading with the West, they wont want to imperil their business with their best customers, so China may give Russia the cold shoulder. Russia will be in a lonely place going forward, as the West will just cut them off completely, which will be hard since Russians have had lots of travel freedoms pre Ukraine.
Russia is f00ked unless they back down over Ukraine, and leave the country to decide its own destiny. If Ukraine want to join the EU, Nato, or the international flower trade association, then that should be their choice, not Russia's.

The headlines are saying todays drop is down to a Credit Suisse Downgrade.

It's just par for the course, the market doesn't apply logic to pricing stocks any more. The easiest way for retail investors to profit, is stock pick where they see value and go in for the long haul. It's hard to know where this war is going, but it's on the cards that Russia will eventually take over Ukraine, with Russia then completely isolated from the West as long as Putin is in charge of Russia. None of what I've just said affects BT's profits, so BT might be considered a safe haven in these uncertain times, at some point the market will recognise that too, in my opinion.
