Totally agree, that's the straw-man.

I believe this was the initiative led by Simon Thomas originally, hence the panels have some well developed capabilities. RR would probably have been able to sell them without going down that path.#
I've seen some different data sheets floating about so from that point of view I have not found it easy comparing panels but I do believe some people are overly fixated on headline efficiency %, when there are a range of factors which determine the best choice of panel , price included.
If space is not an issue as it frequently isn't with some of their key markets then VDTK does not need high performing cells, as it can just add more panels instead., as long as the price per watt is right. At a cost of 1 euro per watt as advertised it ought to be competitive in the lightweight /flexible market.
