The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
I’m not happy that your loosing money - I have been warning about this share for years - I’d be happy if I was wrong. Even pj has taken my advice and sold some of his shares - I wonder if has bought back as he said he would. This is high risk but the potential reward, as far as I can see, is not there. If you strike gas then..... the Moroccan government take ... can’t get the gas out too far from a pipe line .... the gas market has changed.... nobody wants to buy you..... the Americans have flooded the market with cheap lng..... oh we’ve lost the licence and the minister won’t ... this could go on for years and remember this is if you strike gas
Big news about Finisar. I think, just speculation, that Finisar was having trouble making the wafers for vcsels with the quality that was required. They are spending millions, of Apples money, on kit but they don’t have the cooks/know how. Maybe the sale is a cry for help. Either way Iqe looks value and pre eminent.
Looking at the trades for the last day or so it looks to me like there are big buy orders out there slowly being filled with lots of smaller sells. Its painfully slow because they don’t want the price to rise. This is why it looks like more sells than buys as the buy won’t be reported until filled. Could be stake building or short closing - both good for me - I’m hoping sentiment has changed.
This is such a dog of a share. Even if you strike it lucky there is so much risk it’s not certain anyone would buy it. I think this is why it wasn’t sold on seismic. Miles from anywhere in a poor country who want to keep their wealth to themselves in a market where there is oversupply - the upside is small the downside is just sand.
The ft article seems a bit desperate and a repeat of previous ft articles. It almost says the shares are overvalued because they are on the short tracker leaderboard. There is really no news here and it smells of bias and an agenda. What surprises me is the lack of understanding the article shows in the Iqe business. Photonics represents way less than half of its turnover and Apple though significant is only a portion of the photonics bit. Iqe is now making wafers for vcsels for other android clients and the ramp will continue. If history repeats itself there will be a trading update in December that show how this half year has gone - but judging by all the news last week from Lumentum and others I suspect it will be good news. For me the FT is a pale imitation of what it used to be and looks like a vehicle for sale to the highest bidder.
Soundenergy - that’s just mean. I’m fairly consistent with my views on Sound. I watch and enjoy the excitement of horse racing but I don’t gamble on them. Sound Energy is a punt - I don’t like the odds or the management - but why wouldn’t I want you to do well - it’s no skin of my nose.
Yes but they have to sell to realise a profit (for a shorter to sell per se is to buy to give back the borrowed shares) and when that happens demand will increase and the price will go up. If they wait too long the share price will drift to a realistic price (I think that is higher) and then when they try to liquidate their short position the price will go even higher. Shorts are good, us longs just need to be patient and wait for the news flow to demonstrate what a great company IQE is.
Better. It’s just pent up future demand that when released will push the price up as people fight for shares to buy. Odey lost a lot of money on short positions recently - they often get it wrong. What depresses the market is the creation of the short position - but a short position per se has no effect except the scare factor “they don’t like it so there must be a problem”. I’m betting that Iqe is going to beat expectations and the price will go up - all those shorts will just put a rocket under the share price when they get squeezed out. So i think the more shorts the better.
Fantastic news if you were holding. I knew it was cheap but invested elsewhere. Been in and out for years and always thought a well run and interesting company in a difficult area. I’m sad it’s sold well done everyone who stayed in.
The last RNS issued about IQE tells us that T Rowe Price have increased the IQE shares out on loan by just over half a percent or about 5Million Shares. This has given the short sellers enough ammunition to keep a lid on the share price even when there is obvious good news from one of IQE’s clients - that shows that the market for VCSELs is growing rapidly. Remember the news is not the Share Price, for that is being manipulated, the news is the announcement from AMS and next week the announcement from LITE and then Apple on Thursday/Friday week.
