Repsol and Shell signed a deal with the National Bureau of Hydrocarbons to explore Morocco’s hydrocarbon potential. The oil companies will start in an area known as Tanfit, located near the border with Algeria.
Initially, Repsol will be the project operator. The Spanish oil company holds a 37.5 percent stake in this project, while Shell holds another 37.5 percent and the ONHYM holds the remaining 25 percent. Repsol has develpoped operations in Morocco since 2010. So far, it has carried out upstream activities and developed a lubricant business.
