Maybe. But I have noticed over the years when a good RNS is half expected somehow people in the market get wind of an announcement, but NOT what it is. I suppose they play the percentages. Just what I think I've noticed......... your honour!

It's interesting how the indian media are spinning this as doing Vodafone and Cairn some sort of favour!! This is compensation money not some sort of gift!!!
Luckily the courts will decide, or Cairn and Vodafone will by accepting the offer, or not. India and Indian press spin will get them nowhere.

All I said was I should think it would be cheaper for the Indian Government to make a bid to take over Cairn. Then I suggested they might start @ £3.00 a share (if they do). What is wrong with comments like that? I think it would save them millions!!

I see this one as pretty safe, even if India don't pay for now as they surely will have to sooner or later. And if it is later I think it will be after the appeal hearing in a few weeks. I think they have no chance of winning that and then will have to pay all, including costs etc. That is what I think at least!

Whatever way I look at it India will have to pay a substantial amount of the interest and legal fees. First I don't believe CNE and it's share holders will accept no interest/payment of legal fees. Second International investors will be put off investing in India if they don't pay a substantial amount of the interest and costs. It seems like the the Indian Government are trying to make India look like a safe place to invest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY?????

The Indian Government are using the media in India to put across they want to pay. However the media are not putting across the fact that the Companies involved, especially Cairn are owed very substancial interest and legal costs that the Indian Govenment are trying to wriggle out of paying (CNE $700 MILLION). It shows International investors what they are like and it does not paint a good picture at all. It's laughable they think paying what, about two thirds of the Court order is going to have investment flooding back into India!! If they are not going to pay the interest and costs then continue the lagal action I say. I'm extremely confident India will lose the appeal in Early September, just weeks away. Then they truly will be in deep deep International trouble with further extermely bad publicity all over the world.

and legal costs what sort of signal does this send out to potential investors in India?? Not exactly "your investment is safe here" is it!!! More like "your investment is at high risk". If they want investors to be confident and return they neeed to pay the very substancial interest and legal costs as well. If they don't understand that then it is sad.

$1 billion, without the interest and legal costs they were also awarded by the International court the sp would still be North of £2.30 or so. Pricing the sp @ £1.82 the market is hedging it's bets by the looks. The Indian Government cannot possibly for 1 second believe all the 17 Companies involved will accept the miserly offer they seem to be making. More like bribery....... accept of the lagal batttle goes on. BUT the Indian Government have a very very weak hand. They will have to pay a substantial amount of the interest and legal fees IMHO.

We just need the Indian Government to negotiate how the interest and legal costs are going to get paid as eithout these neither CNE or VOD are going to drop the legal cases. In fact as I said before Vodafone's market cap is some £31 Billion, they have written of their Indian investment ages ago and so frankly WHAT DO THEY CARE! As gar as I can see they might as well go for every last penny, or should I say cent!!! And if they get the lot I think we will too.............. $1,700,000,000. A fair bit!

the retrospective tax was wrong! If so this can be used in court. Presumably if true this has torpedoed any chance of India winning the legal battle anyway. What a complete and utter mess they are in!
I'd offer to pay the $1,000,000,000 plus $600m of the $700m interest & costs that were also awarded by the court. Sell the $100 million "saving" to the voters and blame the opposition for getting the country in the mess in the first place!!
