The other side of the coin should they succeed is what did Nanoco have to loose by Samsung appealing after the court case. Time is one thing, it would continue to bind these patents up. Legal action of this would continue to take up management time and effort. Settling this now might have a cost, but It could allow othe profitable opportunities to flourish.
I like the idea it's not Burford funding this, but maybe some entity supporting and protecting its investment.

Impossible to say what tactical decisions could be worth or if logical. It could be new ip coming along which supercedes the disputed IP. Our team are going to get the best possible outcome because they have all the parameters to make the decision.

Royalties aren't the golden ticket. These patents are 8 to 10 years old and it's a fast moving technology already new IP coming down the pipe line. Nothing incentifies alternatives like paying royalties. Samsung isn't the only game in town, and TVs aren't the only use for this breakthrough tech, it's about to enter medical, wearable, automotive, and energy production.

The term sheet is binding, but should something surface during finalising settlement a return to court is the safety net. Returning to court is a stick and carrot. It a settlement is signed it will be the best outcome achievable. The outlook hasn't been this good for a number of years and I've been here since Jan 2013.

Payment for a license to use the IP does on the face of it favour Samsung. It does also cover them to supply cfcd panels to OEMs past and future. It does also mean that they don't have to alert anyone if they move away from the IP which also would mean royalties coming to an abrupt stop. I think there are positives for Nanoco in that the IP have been proven to be the market leading tech and is now available for use. It also negates the need for audits. The many management hours used on this litigation can now be put to better use on running Nanoco. If Samsung hadn't done the massive job and eye watering cost to bring this to market it would still be sitting in a filing cabinet so job done what's next. I do wish the RNS had been better explained, but I guess it was a fast moving situation.

I'm not expecting a pre trial settlement it doesn't fit in with Samsung's strategy. Compared with the QD PANEL investment today the legal cost although not insignificant already paying dividends in market share of this new technology and the longer Samsung keep it tied up in legal limbo the better for them.

It was speculated at the time Apple funded Runcorn on the back of ar glasses. As far ar could be ascertained the project was shelved because Apple couldn't reconcile the power supple requirements for glasses..
Lots of articles available of which this is just one. Firing up Runcorn out of mothballs does lead to speculation Apple could be ready to order something. Articles I've seen think AR glasses will Follow VR headset later this year.

I missed your precious discussions on visibility orders. They can be used when there might be material or production capacity restraints. One example is to place an order in 2023 for delivery 2024 is a commitment to receive the goods for payment, any cancellation would be problematic financially for both parties. A visibility order can have time critical points where a cancellation will have a agreed cost. This allows commitment to materials or production capability to achieve the required delivery.

The prize for Nanoco would be a global patent licence agreement with Samsung, something the court case won't achieve.

FYI. More evidence that QD are becoming incorporated in more electronic devices. Development of the latest terahertz cameras become faster, cheaper and easier to make has been in the news for the last couple of weeks. Researchers at the University of Minnesota, and Samsung have built a terahertz camera using the properties of quantum dots. Loads of articles on the web.
