RE: Bid imminent maybe?27 Feb 2018 11:36
Could not get link to work but found the story very encouraging!
"But his firm, AIM-listed Amerisur Resources, which produces oil in Colombia, has had more ups than downs since he founded it in 2007. The company took a whack with the rest of the industry in 2014 when the oil crisis kicked in, ending a winning run for the share price, but it has since stabilised, valuing it at more than 300 million.
Little-known Amerisur became the largest UK oil producer in Colombia when BP had to sell its assets there to help pay for the Deepwater Horizon disaster a fact Clarke made a point of mentioning to Tony Hayward, the infamous former BP boss, at a state banquet at Buckingham Palace with Colombias President Santos in November. He [Hayward] was looking a little perdu, Clarke adds, with a hint of satisfaction.
Amerisurs status in Colombia has made him an important middleman for the British Government. You get the impression the cricket powerbroker enjoys playing the role of trade intermediary as Colombia recovers from a long and painful conflict, and western countries start to reinvest in it. The oil majors left because of all the security issues, but theyre now beginning to return, he says.
His hope is that takeover-hungry majors will set their sights on Amerisur. Small or medium-sized oil companies tend to end up in large oil companies, he muses. Amerisur, which has built a pipeline into Ecuador, has been going quietly about its bid to produce 20,000 barrels a day. But it hit the headlines last month when, after investor anger, Clarke agreed to stop taking lucrative share options.
