‘Smoke & Mirrors’.22 Oct 2020 22:48
Just had a little Stroll, pardon the pun, and I was thinking that we’ve had no news, or have we?
The Chinese CEO for sales gave a fair bit away, when he said we had more or less caught up on sales for the year, and we certainly would by the end of the year.
What interested me is he said the average age of a Aston Martin driver/owner had dropped as low as the 20’s.
That is quite significant in as much as young Chinese drivers aren’t going to be buying the DBX, which was targeted at ‘rich Asian ladies’, who like to be chauffeur driven.
So they’re going to be buying the sports cars which were once mainly driven by the wealthy older people,I used to think of some old guy like Piers Morgan in a Aston Martin, now we have young entrepreneurs etc looking for sports cars, and everyday driveable sports cars.
Ferrari’s are not everyday driveable, owners bring them out on a Sunday and are more interested in keeping them very low mileage, and are considered ostentatious.
Lamborghini’s the same, and a struggle to get in and out of.
Porsche are probably going to be our main rival as they can be used everyday, and are a usable sports car.
So although we look at the DBX, we may be missing the trick, as our sports cars are grand tourers, roomier, more comfortable and seen as having more class than most sports cars.
Remember how popular MR2 sports cars with Chinese?
Well the Chinese are a much richer nation now and the real growth could come from the sports cars.
With the internet the rich are much younger than they were 15/20 years ago.
I believe the news blackout is so they can deliver real news, not ‘smoke & mirrors.
