R8Pilot Yup you are right others are divesting but Exon is carrying a lot of debt and is late to the show so to speak. I would personally agree that MP is right over a consortium and iff all things fall into place our little Frr will neddy huge amounts of investment. The article I read about Exon is that the share holders are getting twitchy about debt

I only raised because Exon has only announced this in the last few days. Only some of us have long memories but Exon has not been mentioned for a while. As i happens I do support your view that it will be a consortium. others have stated that takes an age to get these consortiums together due to the legal stuff. Add in the political stuff and it takes not only time but behind the scenes many agreements and collaboration. Publicly we have some moves on the Political stuff and we await the Bill in the USA, Exons recent announcement then just MAYBE things are coming together Perhaps a couple more court cases to help delay a little longer? Bloxxy well hope not but it may be required who knows! They say that patients is virtue.

I note with interest that Exon has just announced the sale of huge assets so it can reinvest in new fields without the need to borrow. Exon has been a little behind the curve compared to the other super majors in getting rid of lower grade assets. I wonder? it would suit Uncle Sams views

I would add that the use of soft power is of some great use but you have to in it to win from it. We do need to gear up FCO presence at a suitable point in time as they set up trade fairs /deal etc. Personally I have no objections if our new Aircraft carries pay a visit to the region - Pity we do not have HMRY Britannia still. During her life time the amount of trade drummed up on "good will visits" was staggering. The big cheese brigade from UK PLC were always on board and our new aircraft carriers have this built in as well. This also could have the advantage of a united front with Uncle Sam.

Re your second para. Whilst things have moved on quite a lot ( re pay etc) I do think it is important to remember that the people of the eastern block (as was) have a different attitude to us soft westerners! I remember when I was last out in that area the train drivers had not been paid for months and whilst they still grumbled (quite a lot in fact they were stealing diesel from the loco's to a point of them being empty so even when matters were resolved they could not move due to lack of fuel) They are really made of sterner stuff, Of course the western influence will have had an effect on attitudes but they are still in catch up.

Again I agree in principle with your view on the geo politicle stuff but I would not under estimate the the China /Russian on going battle (It has never really gone away) We know that china has poked its nose in already. Some will correctly say "Does this matter" My own view is that it does and to some extent Georgia is a very much in a position of being a pawn of the big boys and their game playing on the world stage. As I have said before both the oil and the gas is not going away. From a commercial level the big O&G Companies like the asset in the ground as to them it is a cheap resource to make a profit but they are just as much a tool in geo politics area. I do know for instance some of the Government influences on decision making by BP ( and it works both ways) indeed there are British civil servants are are almost embedded within their structure as are all major O&G Companies. The real question for us is who wants our Company to be the public face at the moment. IF we have the support of the big guns we will survive and at the right time be swallowed up one way or another ( to share holders advantage as it is not only pennies to the big boys but will achieve the strategic aims of the west) What is true though is that if we go tXXs up somebody will be put in place to front things until the big boys are ready to go. The only way we will be able to have a clue is if some body can spot plant and equipment orders on a big scale as the big boys have a very much "hit the ground hard and fast" more on the lines almost of a military invasion operation which takes a lot of time to put together in planning etc

I still hold the view as quoted from "kickmuck" that there is a lot of fluff around and should be ignored as long as we can handle all of the fluff however negative it may seem. I can only add that we have one and only one real advantage that being the human contact basis to front things up. That being Zaza being a native speaker and from what I can see has developed relationships with the right people he can of course be replaced but it would take time - he may well be viewed as a very valuable asset ( I hope so).

For those who may not be old enough to remember and to give some idea of how these games can have effect. When the North see opened up it was a surprise to many that the UK did not set up a sovereign wealth fund. The pressures on the UK NOT to set one up were huge from other Countries as it would have been massive but would have placed the UK Government in shall we say an over influential position as far as both in the Markets The pound would have risen hugely and a lot of Countries would have lost position. I could name them but this would open up a very politicle discussion - wrong time and wrong board !

Could not agree more with your post - all I would add is that Energy security needs to be added to the mix. Tensions are building between the east and the west with at present no sign of them abating at present. The EU does have policies on Energy security this but as ever they are stuck in glue. The real issue for us is can we be part of the supply side? at the end of the day somebody will get the gas out of the ground the geo political battle is will the gas go east or west and who will be making the profits?

This is a bit of a general comment re NOMADS. Friends in the City say that really "being a NOMAD is a thankless task both financially - for the amount of income received it really is very hard work and they have better sources of income. To add to this it is a real pain in the backside job. Many are looking to get out of this type of business especially in both on the AIM market and it it is getting hard to find a NOMAD if you want to be listed as a small outfit. The whole system needs to be reviewed." This is of course just a single point of view from a friend but this may also be part of the reason why Cairn found a reason to go .

Whilst the importance of the POTUS is very important I have seen recent reports and also had the odd off the record comment from MEP's that the recent uptake in Russian gas for Europe is beginning to become a bit of a political crisis behind the scenes. The USA is adding its concerns again on the reliance of Russian Gas and of course our own demand to suspend fracking and HMG has refused to intervene in the reopening of a deep coal mine in the North of England ( for energy security) has added further pressure. Europe is getting worried about its energy demands ( clean or not as they will not allow the lights to be switched off)Of course the above is not urgent as in tomorrow morning stuff but certainly the pressure is mounting both in Political and Diplomatic terms. To add into this with the political pressure from the environmental lobby does have some effect which to me suggests that for European Govs they would not want Energy sources based on their own land but it is recognised at all Euro Govs ( Especially Germany) levels across that Electricity demand will increase by 100% over the next couple of decades and the only sensible National policies will be a gas based generation capacity ( green energy will be a side issue over the period how ever much it increase - this is a pan European view)
Some of the above is of course old news from us who have a degree of geo political understanding but things have moved on when it was a realistic discussion point on this board.

Much of the above is nothing more than something Company like ours would take notice of only but whoever has the rights to the gas at the end of the day would not normally matter Companies like ours come and go but it does seem we are a little different. Under normal circumstances would would have gone under but thanks to Uncle Sam who is after more influence in the region we have quite viable support. Uncle Sam will be keen to both keep Russia AND china at bay and Georgia is still west facing perhaps even more so as it seems that Uncle Sam has found a reason to put boots and equipment on the ground. Uncle Sam will have thought long on hard in this action.
