The thrust seemed to be Mkango isn't fixing the worlds magnet supply.... Perhaps Mkango should also be sorting out famine at the German plant and the upcoming fertiliser crisis at the Tyseley plant as well.

HyProMag is edging from demonstration toward production, scaling recycled rare earth magnet output in the UK while building early customer relationships. The proposition is appealing: recover magnets from scrap and return them to the market. The reality is more measured. The company is proving technical viability—but scale, and therefore strategic impact, remains modest for now.

I might write in to complain as well. Just sat my teenage daughter down to watch the presentation. It just didn't grab the attention of a 19 year old girl and she called me boring l, what's wrong with kids today, she'll probably go back to her iPhone on toast and using her avocado.

Very impressive day yesterday at #MKA's HyProMag UK official opening event at the Tyseley Energy Park, Birmingham, yesterday.

Well over 200 attendees. Notable names included Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce and Siemens, and I'm aware that other big names were present (although not my place to name), as existing or potential customers.

The Siemens representative did a great speech that focused particularly on how they loved HyP's exceptionally low carbon footprint NdFeB magnets. The impression given was that Siemens will likely be a major customer for HyP over the long-term.

Agree @ajc2 , that was the stuff that jumped out at me.

The feedstock issue is the most interesting to me. Interesting hear JT talking about lobbying the us government about not exporting it. Agree we just need the UK to follow the UK ruling as well.

I think this is where the closed loop recycling can be super exciting, linking in with big companies and even installing our tech inside there factories. That's why that JLR work is going to fascinating and open up huge opportunities.

Low cap ex if big companies invest in there own close loop magnet supply chain? Franchise models? It's going to be interesting.

Quite a range of industries out there and imagine the scale up for the Defence supply chain.

As you say, early days in a brand new circular magnet supply chain. Fascinated to see how that develops.

This stuff is far more interesting to read and talk about than outstanding warrents and short term prices, but that's my preference.

The grants were two distinct awards from the UK government, each serving a fundamentally different stage of their commercialisation plan. The £6.5 million REACT UK grant is an operational award to actively develop and integrate recycled magnet grades into Jaguar Land Rover's electric vehicle supply chain. Conversely, the separate Scale-Up Feasibility grant is strictly for engineering and financial planning to map out the massive future expansion of their manufacturing plants up to 1,000 tonnes per annum.

Open to challenge on this with those real facts.

Worth noting CoTec actually appointed Retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward (former USCENTCOM Deputy Commander and Lockheed Martin exec) to their board specifically to bridge that DoD gap.

The only question I had was about a possible mix up as the post correctly highlights the January 2027 DoD deadline for China-free rare earth magnets under DFARS 252.225-7052. however isn't the NDAA Section 5949, a separate piece of legislation regulating semiconductors?

Impact of the China sulphuric acid export ban

Just saw China is halting sulphuric acid exports next month (usually ~4.6m tonnes annually).

This highlights a major structural advantage for MKA. Standard rare earth extraction and traditional recycling rely heavily on acid leaching (hydrometallurgy). This supply squeeze is going to push up OPEX and squeeze margins for most Western competitors.

HyProMag’s HPMS technology uses hydrogen gas to break down magnets, completely bypassing the need for acid. While peers face rising chemical costs, our $22.3/kg AISC remains insulated (I have no idea what Bob is on about here, but I'll leave it in).

Just another fundamental reason why the HPMS patent is the ultimate M&A prize in this sector.
