On Thursday, Shares of Baxter International Inc. (NYSE:BAX), lost -0.47% to $41.93.
Baxter International declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.115 per Baxter common share. This cash dividend is payable on October 1, 2015 to shareholders of record as of September 4, 2015.
This dividend represents the new quarterly dividend rate for Baxter following its successful spin-off of its biopharmaceuticals business, Baxalta Incorporated, on July 1, 2015. Over its 84-year history, Baxter has consistently paid a dividend to shareholders and followed a disciplined approach to capital allocation that balances reinvestment in the businesses with returning noteworthy value to shareholders.

Third Point excels at argument and is often able to persuade other board members to support its strategies. As a board member, it does not look to micromanage, but it will urge a company to recruit smart people to the board who are focused on better processes, better decisions, and shareholder value. In this case, Third Point is coming in very amicably, and Baxter is certainly in need of directors who will look out for shareholders. The current board refused to declassify, despite the fact that 98% of shareholders voting (constituting 76% of all outstanding shares) supported a proposal to declassify the board in 2012. Third Point will probably get board seats here, whether it does so amicably or through a proxy fight. However, this is also a good time to urge a sale of the company because the industry is consolidating.
