Thought this meant choosing which beer to have down pub. In meantime, Telegraph quotes Nelly as informing shareholders that "change is coming" as it prepares to demand a shake-up at the top of GSK. Apparently, Nelly has told major GSK shareholders that their campaign against the British pharmaceuticals giant "will not be passive" in a sign of a major clash ahead. Seems Nelly wants to dump Emma over concerns about her leadership and lack of a scientific background. Fair enough, but unless I missed it, why is there still no RNS about the actual extent of Nellys multibillion (really ?) holding ?
Did not think that was possible but great excerpt from Evening Standard sums it up: 'That £46 billion bail out is likely to lead to a loss of £39 billion in all, given how rough the environment has been for bank shares. NatWest shares have in fact doubled this year, encouraging the Treasury to move fast and at least recoup some of its investment'. In addition, 'City institutions expect it to continue to offload its stake, down by 5% today to 54.8%'. OK, negative interest rates no longer on horizon and threatened relocation from Scotland less likely but IMO not yet time to buy.
Finals in May, any idea when ?
Adastra - many thanks for your prompt replies and sharp insight. However, tier 1 or 2 contractor ? Always thought that Maritime fits hand in glove with BAE at Portsmouth. But at what price ?
Adastra - I agree with you that the rapid amputation of cash haemoraging limb probably saved the patients life. It was a brave decision so soon after major investment but history will probably show it was the right one. As for selling Marine, I cannot see this being worth anything like the sums touted. Even today, there is news in the press that Bab**** is flogging off just about anything it can sell.
Did you divestment include the much hyped new Advanced Manufacturing Centre opened in Feb 2018 ?
Broomfielder - many thanks for the excellent article. Kinda blew the idea of independence using sterling clean out of the water, which according to SonofRobin, would have improved the flavour of the excellent scotch. I checked the date of the article, and it was not April 1st ! Can you seriously believe the creation of an organisation called the SFA ! Jock here has just choked all over his saltern t-shirt at the thought of the Scottish Financial Authority ! You really could not make it up ...
Just had one down pub (whisky, lemon and ice - rather nice) in exchange for suffering Jock's view (that is actually his name and he comes from Glasgae) about the terrible prospects for NWG - apparently we are all doomed. Why else would NWG pull out of Scotland if it gets independence unless NWG actually expects to go bust, and needs a bigger economy than Scotland to bail it out ? Good point but interestingly, he then suggested that if NWG stayed in independent Scotland, the EU would bail it out ! Either way, as private Fraser would say, we are all doomed ...
Just profit taking after good run, as widely reported in financial press. Separately, all eyes on May 24th Court case for washing machine leak after which NWG fully funds FCA for foreseeable future. Suspect the first money laundering case is just tip of iceberg ...
Heard it said that looking at asset sale is no more than a device to prop up sp. Does not seem to be working though ...
