Electricity Bills

When the contract with Rosatom was signed in 2016, the Bangladeshi Minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources announced that the price of the nuclear energy generated by RNPP would be Tk 5 – Tk 5.30 (between 5 and 5.30 takas per unit of electricity). However, German researchers calculated that this was a substantial underestimation, and that the true price would be over Tk 8 – possibly exceeding the costs of coal-powered electricity. An official of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) says the cost will really exceed Tk 10 – double the initial estimate.

Professor Shamsul Alam, an energy expert, said in 2023 that “The RNPP’s construction cost is so high that there is no chance of getting electricity at an affordable price”. The truth is that the costs Bangladeshis will ultimately face are shrouded in mystery. In mid-March of this year, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), which is actually involved in the construction, did not know what the resultant electricity prices would be. The BPDB, which will buy electricity from RNPP, also could shed no light on the matter.

So quick recap……Bangladesh is currently run by some very green cuckoos,the country is so in dire straits it has proposed a domestic resources extraction policy….so once again….this policy has been proposed by one of the greenest govts Bangladesh has ever had,it is forming this policy if it gets time to do it for the incoming govt to implement……the odds on govt is the bnp who is pro domestic resources 👍

5p=equals a market cap of £16mln quid…….it’s ridiculously low for a potential share in a $100bln dollar coal reserve owned in full by GCM Resources 😉

From your article earlier searcher about the March coal meeting the bit that struck me the most was it was a full committee from every department of interim govt and business leaders and there was only 1 person in the committee that was anti domestic resources!!………now if the next democratic government are presented with the same proposal and there’s only 1 show of hands against that the phulbari mega project started 👍……exciting times

That’s the best bit gp😉…….basically the cuckoo head of the interim govt is meeting the very likely next prime minister of Bangladesh to be……if Yunus is to save himself his reputation and any future with this govt he will have to bend or the next 6 months will be hell on earth……Jammat are happy with February and February is middle ground between Dec bnp and April Yunus……..if this can be seen to be agreed it’s a win win for both these men…..Yunus can crack on for 7/8 months and Tariq can get himself a Parliament to be together…….then we can get down to energy business 👍
