According to officials from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and IPPs, the BPDB now owes more than Tk27,000 crore to over 70 local and foreign IPPs, with nearly Tk17,000 crore owed to local producers and the rest to foreign-backed ventures.

IPP owners said payments are currently delayed by up to 6-7 months beyond the due dates, creating severe liquidity pressures across the sector.

Several private power producers have already written to the BPDB chairman, cautioning that prolonged delays threaten the entire sector's sustainability.

Md Shamim Mia, head of Regulatory Affairs at United Power Generation and Distribution Company, told TBS that continued non-payment of dues could severely affect power production.

Interesting steel article the need for developing a steel plant and infrastructure to move the products around the country…….article is hinged on import steel making coal but is the semi soft coke at Phulbari a quality steel making coal?…….if phulbari gets the go ahead there’s another outlet to relieve import fuel for steel!……

Absolutely agree on the monster re rating to come……this will get to a point in the very near future where those playing the price will crap the bed and back off by then it could be post energy master plan pre election but many multiples of today’s price 👍

Afternoon gp…..I don’t profess to understand charts but that’s good enough for me….what I do understand is time is on our side for some company making decisions over the next few weeks……is the buying from the far east or Bangladesh ……Tang is also well connected in Malaysia……I did notice our cfo is well loaded too with a couple of million shares,I hope he does well with them as he’s run a tight ship

I’m happy for Bangla to have a golden share of phulbari to get this over the line but that must be on the condition they are not involved in the extraction in any way……!!

Perfect storm for a domestic resource project that’s ready to go……Bangla has failed at every turn to expedite gas with it’s own resources 🙄

State-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) supplied 121 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid in early August 2024. That supply had fallen to 81 million cubic feet yesterday, November 25. Based on this calculation, the company’s supply to the grid has declined by more than 33 percent over a span of 16 months. This continued fall comes despite repeated assurances after the interim government assumed office that BAPEX would be fully utilized to boost domestic gas supply, including commitments on financing, well-drilling equipment, and other operational support.

Well I had 30p down for end of year on open pit coal extraction being prominent in the energy master plan,let’s see,it won’t take much getting there,and anyone here now that gets sweated out by a swing traders saved up article really is of a nervous disposition and aim is probably not the place for you?…..

Imho won’t be any mention of coal extraction in any manifesto just like 2018….lots of waffle about saving the country etc but details on energy will be vague…..too many woke students voters to appease ,Fouzel should complete everything that needs to be said regarding coal extraction in the energy master plan then the parties have carte blanche to act as soon as they get elected……..

Imported fuels, including LNG and HFO, will continue to serve as transitional sources until local production stabilises.
