The efficacy of the imposition of further sanctions is doubtful.
The West spends 700m dollars a day on Russian oil and gas and this would take years to replace .
Von Der Leyen has implied this could be implemented quite easily but this is nonsense.
History proves that only military force stops tyrants.

Sanctions will not deter Putin. Sooner or later, military force will have to be used unless he is removed internally.

Also agreed. Another potent reason why Rosneft will not be touched is that Qatar owns 19% of it. A nice insurance policy for BP's holding IMO.

Putin has boxed himself into a corner. If he withdraws without concessions from the West his days will be numbered IMO

Nice to see Barclays have reiterated their price target on BP of £7.

Totally agree.
That's why I've bought back in this morning and will stay for the long haul. The long term prospects for BP are very attractive IMO.

Thanks for the link but that article is already old news. Putin's declaration regarding the 2 separatist republics is not good news for the SP. There will be a significant fall in the markets tomorrow when trading starts and BP will be dragged down along with the rest, notwithstanding the increasing oil price.
From what he said tonight, Putin is determined to get back the whole of Ukraine and he also made it clear that he is very unhappy about the other Baltic States political allegiances too.
I sold my BP shares this afternoon and I will be in no hurry to go back in.

No need for doom and gloom. The long term outlook is very very good. Just check out the FT's front page and that will cheer you up.

Also bought LLOY at inflated prices. Sold the lot at 26p for loss of £35k but put the proceeds into BP so was lucky to get all my losses back plus interest.

Let's have a reality check please. The SP yields 4% . According to Looney the dividend will increase at a further 4% pa until 2025. Regardless of buybacks this does not augur well for a large hike in the SP unless the oil price remains at very high levels over a sustained period of time .
