What does "in auction" mean?

I woke up, read (here) that there were good news. Saw that ask was at 47p. So I typed it in. Then it dropped to 45p where it was filled. No 2 minutes later LSE opened and ask jumped to 62p.So... If it stays up here I was lucky.
