This deal was being discussed last year & may be the reason why the institutions bought in & it rose to £4.40 in February. It’s possible that this has been such a mess & the details so perplexing ie different contenders bidding for UK Bumi’s 29% stake, that it’s slipped under the radar. I note that there has been very little discussion on this BB or others in recent months. Just to clarify: Mr Rothschild’s investment venture ‘Vallar’ was renamed Bumi [UK] when it acquired 29% of the Indonesian coal miners shares- PT Bumi Resources. It is not all the same co, as the name may imply. PT Bumi Resources shares rose 27% on the Indonesian stock market, in Mondays trading.

If you bought last Thursday at 1.81, it’s good. Quote: the deal will leave Bumi wholly focused on its 85pc-owned subsidiary Berau Coal, with the London-listed group planning to return about $400m to shareholders. $400m = £244,144,000.00 / 180.51m shares = 1.3525 pence each + current sp @ 2.20 = £3.55. But no conformation of this yet.

Mr Rothschild reported to now be in agreement with the deal on offer. AGM vote result tomorrow- Tuesday 17th Dec. No more details yet re the planned return of $400m to shareholders.

Back to 2.37 ?, you could have bought in a few days ago at 1.81 but it’s a very very high risk gamble ! the volume bought is about £100,000 worth of shares higher than before the RNS.

It’s 50/50 at the min because I can’t see Mr Rothschild & other large shareholders accepting the deal, they have a too much to loose. But that being said maybe they will throw the towel in & accept, only time will tell. At least with the cash they can reinvest it & try to recover their losses that way.

Hi, everyone knows that this is a mess. Many blame Mr Rothschild but he has been caught out along with the rest of us. Don’t wake up the Regulators, with PT Bumi suspended in Indonesia I’m surprised that this hasn’t been suspended again. Mr Tan might have a magic hat when in comes to finance but there are even limits to how much cash he can raise. Thing is that there are better investments than coalmines.

Your assuming that shareholders will accept this deal, remember many of the original investors paid around £10 a share, so most probably doubtful that they will accept this offer, at not much more than the current sp.

We are waiting for the share sale/transfer to Mr Tan to be passed or not, at the next AGM. Mr Rothschild is currently in litigation with the board as Mr Tan will be able to increase his share holding further & no one has any idea what his intentions are if he gets control of the co. Ie his stock purchases are highly leveraged, so any special div may be off the table. The small buys are possibly computer algo’s testing liquidity on other exchanges

The Pro’s can trade directly into the order book. EG if they place 9 shares at a price 10% above the offer price & then buy it, the sp will go up by 10%, even though only 9 shares were purchased. The idea is to make it look like the sp is going up to attract retail buys in, then they can sell at the higher price & take a profit. Or you could say take the money off the retail trader. Also there are 4 exchanges, so small buys are used to test liquidity on those exchanges because unlike the lse they are not publicised.

Wouldn’t we all love to be in Mr Tan’s shoes. If only I could borrow $1bn from Standard Chartered Bank. Loose $800m of it on Bumi & then be able raise further funding to finance this purchase. China’s GDP is 7.5% & forecast to go down to 5% by 2020 due to reduced activity. I’m sure I could find better-safer investments. Equities with a dividend would be a good start.

This is very much ‘news driven’ & there’s plenty of news in the making. I must say that I’m surprised that this has not moved more than this in either direction. If only for large investors to reallocate money to safer equities. Maybe it’s on life support to give investors a false sense of security. It did try to rally yesterday, if only to sucker investors in. Nothing has been mentioned about what Mr Tan’s plans are, if he gets control of ‘Valar’. We have an idea what the upside is but as HawkA1 has pointed out this can be readjusted at any time. The Pro’s will use any bad news along the way to force the price down & might also drive the price down gradually until the AGM vote in the Autumn, if only to provide a good entry point. It’s low on Sept 24th was 1.1954 & it’s possible it might make new lows ?

Looks like there’s an institution continually selling in small volume via ATs, so as not to cause a large price drop

With the news flow on this & litigation over Mr Tan’s bid, I can see there being some wild swings over the coming Months.

It needs more volume to get some direction & the ‘ATs’ will follow, buy there doesn’t seam to be a flurry of buyers. Last October it plummeted 66% from 360 to 120 but took a couple of days to do it, so let’s see what happens.

The price is being held up by some very small 'AT' buys & it’s still not available to trade through some of the major retail brokers yet.

Too early to say. The Pro’s have access to the order book but their not buying in volume, so could go either way when trading is fully up & running for everyone

Hi Jade, thanks for that, so if I understand this right. Once Bumi has sorted it’s affairs out & applies to be relisted, then it will start trading three Months from that date.
