Megla, I've tried to be optistic to date and assumed any government won't want to destroy a key economic sector. I've assumed they will be sensible and exercise some due diligence to understand the full consequences of their decisions.

However, when I read the news each day I'm flabbergasted at some of their decisions which appear to be taken for entirely ideological reasons, regardless of real world impact.

I'm hoping Rachel Reeves won't do something really stupid in October but I'm not confident about that. I'm also hoping SQZ management won't rely on Reeves not doing something stupid, but to be honest I'm not confident about that either.

As with all things, climate change should be kept in perspective.

Is this climate changing? Yes. It has always changed over the planet’s 4 billion year history.

Is change accelerating as a result of human activity? Probably, yes.

Does this represent an existential threat? Most certainly not. We just need a sensible plan to mitigate impact and adapt. This should not include bankrupting the UK to reduce global emissions by considerably less than 1 percent which will be negated by China’s emissions within a few days.

Doubling down on investments in the UK was a mistake once the EPL had come into play, as many people said at the time of the Tailwind transaction, especially paying so much over the odds.

An overseas acquisition is essential for SQZ and the industry needs to use the time between now and the budget to communicate the message that they will abandon the UK if the government doesn't see sense. They need to make the full consequences of this crystal clear to government, unions, media, and the general public.

If the industry still hasn't got the message across to the morons in government, they never will. I think it's time for SQZ to start winding down its UK operations and invest in more welcoming territories, i.e. anywhere else in the world.
