Anyone with any knowledge of the energy industry knows Labour's net zero plans are totally unworkable and will have huge unintended consequences, as discussed extensively on this forum.

While we're hearing lots of noises from the oil and gas industry (as you would expect), some of the right-leaning newspapers, and now some trade unions, the appalling truth is not yet understood by the general public. The industry needs to get the discussion onto shows like Kuenssberg.

This week's drop has been due to sentiment. Lots of negative noises about O&G.

Last week's rise was due to positive sentiment.

This farce can't continue.

No company can plan to invest against a backdrop of such fiscal uncertainty and volatility.

Let's hope the budget at the end of October draws a line to allow companies decide whether/where to invest. Like it or not, the future of this industry in the UK (and all the jobs, tax revenue and energy security) is in the hands of Reeves and Miliband.

To take SQZ private, Mercuria would need to offer fair value for the shares. I reckon that would be at least £3, possibly more depending on what's announced at the end of October.

Certain people including this Labour government see oil and gas as evil. Oil companies are greedy, polluting parasites which must be taxed out of existence.

They forget that the industry provides 80% of the UK' s energy, supports 200,000 jobs, and provides billions in tax revenue (to help finance the energy transition amongst other things).

They're not practical people and they will reap what they sow.

20% of the electorate voted for them. The fact that this is considered a "thumping majority" underlines the absurdity if our FPTP electoral system.

Politics can't be decoupled from business, especially the oil and gas industry at this point in time. It's imperative that politicians understand the impact of their decisions but some of us are concerned this isn't the case.

In my view, the politicians currently in government don't have sufficient real world experience and nor do the civil servants advising them.

AIM isn't a market for serious, stable companies and that's why institutional investors don't invest heavily in AIM-listed companies. I'm guessing a large percentage of our SP drop is due to IIs getting nervous and offloading. It would be interesting to see the split of IIs vs PIs over the past 3 years.

Disappointing there's still no progress on M&A. We continue to wait for Rachel Reeves and Ed Miliband to decide our fate.

Good to hear we can reduce tax liability as a result of Tailwind tax losses, and our effective tax rate was just 26% in H1, but this will only last for another 2-3 years.

If there's no M&A deal soon, share buybacks need to commence to utilise the cash in shareholder interests.

I agree that a very aggressive buyback campaign would boost the share price significantly. But who would be selling at this price?

When dodgy governments take the p--- with insane taxation, company accountants need to get creative. Reeves, Miliband and Starmer need to observe the Laffer curve in action.

The OEUK document makes things pretty clear but Miliband, Reeves and the other dunderheads at Westminster will ignore it and press on with their warped ideology. After all, they've got the support of 20% of the electorate behind them.

If the end of October comes, Reeves announces even more punitive measures, and we still haven't found a decent overseas deal, the SP is going back to pre-BKR levels.

Not sure these muppets are going to rethink anything.

Miliband's probably too busy agreeing his energy strategy with sixth formers at a north London comprehensive.

It's no surprise that Miliband and Stark don't have a clue how to achieve a carbon neutral electricity supply by 2030. Anyone with any subject matter knowledge knows this is impossible and Miliband has set an arbitrary target without any planning or even any understanding of how our energy system works.

What's truly shocking, though, is how idiots like this have ended up in positions of power.

They've upped their game on the comms front and I hope they're working equally as hard on finalising a decent deal outside the UK. Also I hope they're thinking carefully about relisting away from AIM, and possibly away from London.

Sincerely hoping they're not all mouth and no trousers.

Surely if they're considering emissions impact from domestic production, they should also be considering impact for ALL hydrocarbon imports. Taking this to its logical conclusion, we just need to stop burning hydrocarbons. Anyone got a few trillion to spare to convert our energy system overnight?

I see the commies are now talking about taxing "excess profits" across all business sectors to fill the £22 billion "black hole".

Far more coal mines closed under Labour than the Tories.

Plus the UK coal industry was no longer commercially viable. This is definitely not the case for the UK oil and gas industry (subject to Labour's taxation plans).
