The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
Very good insight and helpful posting for us. Read the following on Google finance this am re. GMG and the hope is Mr Highfield etc are ahead of the game and I think they are. LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Guardian Media Group (GMG) expects its losses to increase in the next few years as it invests to keep up with the rapid pace of change ripping through the newspaper industry, its outgoing chief executive said. Guardian's digital revenues hit £80m but losses remain around £30m CampaignLive Guardian and Observer publisher to keep losses flat as it invests in future The Guardian Footsie posted a while ago about the need for consolidation in the industry and he has to be correct. Will it be to the benefit of shareholders? Time will tell, however we all need news, information and advertising space so someone will win at some point in time, it is not all doom and gloom. GL all.
Is that a random RNS at 10-02 today? I don't think so! The BOD would only put those numbers out for a reason, things are perhaps moving behind the scenes. There is no way of telling without info from either party if something is being discussed. GL all, we deserve it after such a torrid time over the years.
So is JPR in the frame for a take over or merger (as the footsieinvader suggested a few weeks ago), the FT headlines today are stating Trinity Mirror are on the look out for online acquisitions and JPR certainly fits the bill. Is this hold on to your hats time? Time will tell but this could be an interesting development about to unfold.
Thanks. Always interesting to see how people and markets react to information. I havnt seen the article of course but it has certainly sparked interest in a share that had drifted for a while now. Did the article contain news we all need to know?
Some big buys at high prices. Someone has woken up to kcoms potential again, unless there is news ready to break. I havn't seen any research notes or live RNS info. Let's hope it is just back to normal business! GL with this one.
Trade volumes and price up today. Why? No complaints, just having to wonder why. I can see momentum buying as a possibility, speculation, perhaps but nothing evidence based. Unless someone knows differently. Many small trades and just a couple of larger ones., significant or not? EU bond buying shouldn't affect JPR. Bonus day for employees and so they have all bought shares! We are not due a quarterly statement for a while. Any better ideas?
However they may have issued more shares to cover the 300 million for the 2015 British stress tests, as per my21. I think there will have to be an RNS Monday to clarify the holder / buyer of that many shares. It does not detract from the value of BNC as an investment, I think it remains very good value as a medium term investment for dividend and possible capital growth.
Yes well predicted and options for JPR well thought through. It will take a time to show through to the bottom line but limited cost implications. If all goes well JPR stands on its own feet and will be financially sound. If better than that the format will make the co. a target . So the future is looking a little brighter. The staff from bottom to top deserve congrats for their hard work, and hopefully continued hard work. Remains a v good hold and perhaps a little top up! GL all.
Thanks for the thoughts /insights etc. you have been close with your thoughts /predictions so far. TNI merger would be an interesting development and I think would have financial benefits for both companies. I agree with your thoughts regarding board issues. I think using 2014 ideas will allow JPR to stay afloat and do better than tread water. A link with TNI would give more value at least short term, BUT moving forwards a new strategy is needed, I havnt the answers but will enjoy observing and so far investing. GL
I think JPR may just have managed to get this consolidation away successfully. It is on the main market not sim and has always been a well respected company. The issues of the last board / co. direction may now be behind us. A. Highfield has so far taken many positive decisions and seems to be at the company for the long haul. It's still fingers crossed time but if people will continue to embrace the new formats we could be looking good for the future. We need an update from selldot but my guess is the board has put an embargo on senior staff publishing news on these new fangled digital things. Anyway Paulie (which comes out as Pauline on the iPad!!) another rise like yesterday and some of us may break even! GLA and have a good W/E. Give F430 from Barcs board a quick thought as he is 3 weeks into chemo and 4 to go, best wishes to him.
In this digital age everyone goes multi-tasking, you may even see photographers 'righting' articles!! (another bad slip of the dyslectic pen) JPR as a company remains on the cusp (IMHO), but is that to rise from the ashes or become them. read ftse's posts as he has a good insight, so does selldot but he seems to have gone AWOL. I remain a hope for the best person. I also don't like share consolidations, I would have profered a 10 t1 ONE.
So what has brought this little critter back to life then?
Good spot lunatic. With the share price having dropped, it makes Kcom even more attractive ( if you have spare funds!) a cover of 1.5 is just about ok, I can't remember the debt level.
Thanks for posting the AH email scoobi, good to know you are appreciated and working hard to deliver improvements at JPR, I don't think the news has filtered out to other potential investors yet - but it will and then we will get the steady rise. Well done Mr FTSE, I hope your timing is spot on and you have hit the low spot and the steady rise in share price soon follows. You have always been honest with your opinion and research so deserve success and your success is our success!! Good luck. I think you must agree the email to JP staff as posted by scoobi is very encouraging. This share has to be a good buy on a) potential fundamentals and then the possibility of a merger or takeover.
When is the closed period for JPR? Selldot had said 'no comments' will be made from him ( I think it is him!) in the closed period. I can't see anything as dramatic as Phoenix rises or death knells in December, steady progress with the odd hiccup is the best we can hope for. It is fair to say Ashley H has had to dig deep in many ways to get JP back on track and without his efforts, and low interest rates have helped, JP would not exist in 2014 /15 , shareholder value would be less than today's or nothing. The referendum is worrying investors and market sentiment so next week is not going to be good for any shares. JP can't say anything about the referendum or where it will base post no or yes! It's tied to reporting news not making it. After the dust has settled Ashley H and the board can start to reinforce decisions ie make plans to perhaps have a split site HQ, admin in Scotland and important stuff moving south. ( that is if my memory is correct with h q being north of the boarder?) Ftse - I think that is your first post of the heart rather than the head, I like the 'head' ones best !
Perhaps a little more confidence returning to PVCS with the resolution of the arbitration and the possible shortage of silicon wafers. We have been treading water for a long time and it would be good to move away from bargain basement levels into a grown up company once again. The release of company numbers would take the guess work out of the game , so here is hoping. Yes still holding! At buy in levels now with the latest news? It does at a little to available research. Good luck all.
Reply appreciated, with what I read as an honest post, it highlights your position and views of the company as you see them. It seems your 6) reply is as good as a Mark in the opinion box, I wonder if mr ftse has seen that! Let's hope it all comes together to bring JPR back on a healthy footing. We know it will not happen overnight but steady progress coupled with honesty when there are headwinds, which there will be, may be we will move to be a successful business again. GL all holders and future holders!
Thanks JPP79, I hope your move from JP has been a success for you and your family . You raise some interesting points through your observations. I feel ftse invader will endorse many of your thoughts / observations and question also how JP will translate digital into cash, without the help of smoke and mirrors. The strategy from A H must be spelt out and clear enough to engage staff at all levels and abilities, or for team leaders to translate into workable strands. Sounds easy!! We all know it is not, I hope AH is up to it. (Come on jo pavey, just an aside!)
Welcome selldot, my q's will follow, slow brain syndrome. Have you noticed the opinion box ? It does have options! Just for starters is middle management up to the job, do they encourage, support, train /educate encourage accuracy , follow up ideas and weaknesses? Can you get rid of staff who let the others down. Is client support discussed ie churn of SME's, I assume big advertisers are looked after very well. I've only known one person who eorked at JPR and he wasn't very happy there, is there generally a good team spirit? Thanks for putting your head above the parapet . We did have an employee on the board before but he has faded away. Is the Yorkshire post yours - that is a good publication .
Good response ftse invader at 9-10. I tried to respond earlier to your 14-25 post but fat fingers lost the lot and I couldn't do it all again!! Keep giving your views, we don't have to agree with it all but it normally gives an insight to help with our investment quest. You haven't given me any sleepless nights yet but nor am I investing more. Sounds like a hold from me then! I assume yesterday's 6.9 x 10 to the 6th was a buy. Not yours then! I think the local titles will always have local support and the skill is getting the platform correct for the time, we are without doubt moving to a digital community and companies know they have to engage in more than one format to increase access figures. Autotrader is still a national format and majaski sold it at the right time, but we still want local information re cars, houses, jobs, ads as well as news. The what's on pages attract readers who then use the ads and then spread the word! Changes in format will not lead to quick fix revenue increases but steady changes will be sustainable, will JPR still be around by then- you probably know better than me! Now as for the company strategy I agree it needs spelling out, and tell us that the basics are being done accurately. I remember a trades person (yes he was a man!) saying he was frustrated with the accounts dept, you can't have that at any time. The customer has to be looked after or they will take their business and their mates elsewhere,
