The issue with the continual decending price of good old glenda and its reluctance to get to the much lorded lowly £2, let alone any higher, is because its not a copper share as many believe and are fixated upon.
Glen makes, or more correctly at the moment is losing, more money via coal than copper and it stands to reason therefore that it follows that pricewise to a greater extent. Unfortunatley coal is currently going downhill fast and therefore applying a bigger drag than the upside copper provides.
Unfortunately, BHP are currently looking to sell their thermal coal assets, and you can bet that Ivan the visionary will also waste plenty more money buying those up to add to all the other screw ups he's made of recent date. Maybe he'll do swoppsies for all the overpriced treasury buybacks we're holding who knows

Spot on Scoop, total waste of money they were werent they - very poor financial management and will surpress price rises for years to come as they drip back into the market (or use them to take glen private). Shopkeeper buying his own unsold mouldy bread to keep lol.

Debt often a good thing, certainly in such low interest rates period, however you need to keep the quantity under control. Ivan etc didnt do this and took his eyes off the ball like a small kid in a sweet shop, never knowing when to say enough was enough before it got out of control.

Should have paid a reduced amount to keep a steady middle course and kept shareholders happier and more on side.. Will have to see what it does to the sp over the coming weeks.

To 'build a cash position for future oppertunities' would take a good few years of divi cancellations given the actual figures. No way theres any purchases on the radar without a corresponding substantial increase in debtpile, the divi payment is just small change in reality.

We performed very strongly due to our marketing business, we increased targets to the top end of previous forecasts, we see uncertainty in the near term (well done Sherlock) so will keep your divi cash.
Now, being a cynic, isnt business an 'uncertainty' always? nobody can foresee the future afterall can they?
Unfortunately retaining the cash to pay down debt invariably involves a lot of said cash being swallowed by fees and charges to do same, so reducing the paid off balance.
But at least they are not proposing more treasury held buybacks i suppose, so can be thankfull for that small mercy, although id imagine Ivan etc will be getting a decent payrise to offset his divi losses anyway.
