At the 30th session of the Regional Standing Conference of the Ústí Region, the process of selecting strategic projects in the Ústí Region for financing from the Just Transformation Fund was completed. As part of this fund, the European Union will provide the Czech Republic with a total of 41 billion crowns to support the so-called coal regions, for which the transition to a climate-neutral economy is the most demanding. "The Ústí Region is one of the three Czech regions whose economy is dependent on coal mining. The shift away from coal therefore has a number of negative impacts for us, both economic and social. We want to ensure that there are enough jobs here even after coal mining has ended. At the same time, we are also striving for the most valuable revitalization and recultivation of the landscape," said Jan Schiller, Governor of the Ústí Region and Chairman of the Regional Standing Conference of the Ústí Region, adding that the government allocated 38.6% of the total allocation to the Ústí Region for these purposes, which amounts to approx. 15, 8 billion crowns.
A total of 49 projects for 135 billion crowns were submitted as part of the call announced by the Ústí Region to submit potentially strategic projects. The projects were evaluated by experienced external experts from all over the Czech Republic according to the methodology of the Ministry for Regional Development and the Ministry of the Environment. In the next phase, members of RSK ÚK working groups composed of representatives of the region will assess them. A project that is unique in its focus, scope, or other characteristics is considered strategic.
The Regional Standing Conference of the Ústí Region approved 11 strategic projects that will be included in the Ústí Region's Transformation Plan and recommended for inclusion in the Just Territorial Transformation Plan. I perceive very positively the diversity of actors involved in the process of transformation of our region. Cooperation between the region and the university will be beneficial, as will the cooperation of the Labor Office with our secondary schools, for example," said Iva Dvoráková, a member of the RSK, councilor for the area of ??strategy for the preparation and implementation of projects, and added that other projects could be financed within the framework of various thematic challenges and from other European Union funds. In cooperation with the Regional Chamber of Commerce of the Ústí Region and the Regional Association of the National Network of Local Action Groups, the region will inform the public about the preparation of thematic calls and grants intended, for example, for municipalities or small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.
The list of strategic project plans was approved by the RSK ÚK by consensus, as well as the setting of parameters for their support from the Operational Program Just Transformation.
