Rag tries to mock me for “fleagate” when I sold but as I posted at the time I moved money into other places as I said boohoo would just trade flat (well it’s even headed down). At the time I posted Sanne and Ramsdens as two stocks to look into. If you had either you’d be a lot happier.

Cinven came for Sanne this morning (unfortunately I sold out of Sanne after a decent profit so not part of the fun today)

@wysrun DS Smith is a great business I looked at it when they cancelled the divi as I used to own Smurf a few years ago and saw the cardboard demand squeezing prices. I just couldn’t get a feel for how the industrial side would play out so didn’t invest

But anyone have any other tips it would be good to chat about them

I think Debenhams will be great as flags has said. It will be a new audience which generally have more money and will spend on a wider range of items

Beauty alone is easy to see fly past the £55m paid. Also not forgetting management out nothing in expectations for Debs and marketplace (or as far as I can see) so I think this will add to over performance and low guidance (re revenue. Margin I have more nerves for - but beauty is high margin and often not returnable so this will help to give margin upside)

My issue with Debenhams so far is that it doesn’t link to PLT or Boohoo websites. Initially Debs seemed amazing as there was all the boohoo/ PLT customers we can up-sell too. At present though boo is now hoping those customers shop twice (t shirt from PLT and then go to Debs and get make up). For me I think Debs fly’s when this can be seen less. How that looks and feels I’m not sure (that’s where boo bring in the experts) but this for me would be a key step. Also this halves the expensive cost of delivery (a lipstick can go along with the t shirt)

I do fully agree (and always said this) that plt cannot go on Debs. It can’t be that your gran is talking to you about having a PLT t shirt. I think boohoo on there has been carefully managed so I’d say well done on that

Be interesting to see how Debs would fair internationally. But again marketplace concept can be used here and I think would be a great low cost way of test waters

That’s why glen is ok here as we sell an asset that gets bought up with inflation and the supply crunch (so should rise a head of inflation). The difficulty is is if you sell a price elastic product. A ton of beans sells at 80p. At £1 or £1.20 do you sell the same amount of beans or do people move to something else?

Or if you make t shirts how much of the rising cost of cotton can you pass on without hurting sales? But as I said I think wages will rise in the lower paid jobs so I don’t see a real impact here

For glen there are also very little alternatives to copper

Not necessarily as glens costs are part under its control. Yeah wage costs can rise (local labour markets can be different if there are lots of workers wages fall). Also glen controls lots of items which can feed into its cost base through having a marketing arm. For example a huge rising cost atm is the shipping costs. Glen has infrastructure to move parts around or store items. This can help mitigate some of these costs

Also on a pure maths basis. Copper has gone from 7,500 to 10,300 a 30% uplift. If we assume a GM% of 50% then as costs are lower proportion and rise slower than the asset we are selling glens profits go up

Stocks which can’t expand top line revenue are the issue but as copper keeps being inflated (or supply and demand driving it up) glens profits will follow

I’m not too convinced we will have full out inflation in the truest sense. I think what we will see is a lot of this is driven from commodities and a wall of pent up demand

I think the huge wall of job added in the US but not filled partly shows that wages do need to rise but again that means we have richer consumers for higher prices. Again not an issue on a net sense

One thing I think that’s worth remembering is that inflation is a net score event. People paying more for things mean someone is being paid more for those things. In the case of Glen that’s us!

Prices can rise means the money flows to Glen. Glen also has a lot of debt. This debt burden reduces

Inflation at this point in time is good for us. I’ll be adding here although as I don’t think this inflation will last (in real terms) some tech stocks look very cheap!

Milkman who got left behind and he’s all upset and angry about it he comes on here chatting about such points of detail for validation that he does know something. Yet in his professional role people talk about data, platforms or test and repeat and he’s lost wondering “why not wholesale everything?” Not knowing that margins impact value. But then again he’s never created value as he thinks profit and “volumes” create value

Sell up rag don’t gamble with your hard earned money. Rule 1 of stock investing is make sure you understand what you own and you’ve proven you haven’t a clue. Be a reponsible man and get back to what you know - which isn’t boohoo or the fast fashion pure play platform business
