I think it’s a mixed bag

Ultimately moonpig think they will have £100m move revenue than pre-covid. Question is is that revenue coming from us or supermarkets or just a younger generation?

My view is it’s a younger generation so Card won’t see the biggest hit from this

I think a positive to note is that 37% of moonpig revenue comes from the app, up from 33% at ipo. While the revenue number is bigger I think any customers that aren’t app users are floaters and can be won by Card’s website

I think what moonpig has done well is the gift partnerships and premiumisation (as they coined it). The x-sell to gifts is very good but these gifts are third party so no reason why Card can’t do the same! Why would Lego not want to be part of our offering too?

Also I think the sell off today shows moonpig will have to keep big marketing spend

I think it’s as moonpig results tomorrow and any narrative about sales coming off since opening up will be a big wind for Card

Cards shoppers aren’t quite moonpig shoppers but none the less we need to be competing against moonpig and online particularly for party ranges (balloons etc)

Just to say I’ve been sending a few emails to Card re their app and website

Happy to say they are great at implementing them (for example they had “happy birthday” balloons driven by sales force data which mean “1” & “2” balloons were at the top but you had to scroll to page 20 before you saw a “happy birthday” balloon! Madness! Who on earth gets that far!

Now when you go on all the great happy birthday balloons are there!

They are also working on click and collect which I think will be great

If you read this it says Next said it “does not expect sales to continue at these exceptionally strong levels”, adding that growth slowed significantly from mid-June once the warm weather passed“

So this matches what Asos said ie all going bonkers and then slowed in mid-June

Tbf he’s certainly young enough to not want to retire

My view is that he’s clash too much with the short term of public markets

Better bet would be to get a PE behind him and take it private. Mould the business with a more long term view and then generate real value

A deal could be done for this share at what would be seen as a steal in the future

On bloomberg that HSBC is looking to sell it's debt as it sees it as too risky

Could be another great addition to Debenhams!

Also has a fairly decent international footprint

All that is pointless. All you need to know is

- was £4 so must be a bargain
- what cameras boo uses
- types of stitching used
- also you want the p/e to normalise
- also there is no competition

Boohoo have doen that. Click on the watch. boohoo don't deliver it. boohoo don't ever own it as stock. boohoo jsut takes a commission for the sale going via debenhams

Boo does nothing it takes no management time

That's the beauty of a marketplace model

@treacke the reason why main market would make a difference is that certain funds are prohibited from investing in aim businesses

All funds have target areas or focus and therefore depending on what the business does, growth, dividend yield, where in the world you operate or exchange listed you can attract certain types of investors

Ie fidelity special situations China might love asos but it ain’t China so no can do

The funds which can invest ftse are obvs geared for stamp duty

So speed is effecting although asos had done well in Europe it is clearly a drag

Just to say from the asos update (I bought asos today on the drop) there is a huge positive

Customers are slowing shopping till they have certainty. This proves (or I hope it does) what I have always said that one of the best moats around this business and key to success will be speed of service to customers

Customers have stopped shopping but at the second they have sight of a reason to buy they will and guess what only boo and asos will have 1) the correct range of product and 2) the ability to deliver on masse

This in part proves when the world returns to normal the speed advantage will be key. I think this part explains boo’s poorer performance in Europe where boo is not fast enough (vs Zalando and Asos who are)

It’s about speed and boohoo need to start investing! It’s just going to hurt when we have to cough up £300m of capex but this is the cost of being a platform. You need to be fast
