Lucky, I have no problems with the 'fracking' industry. Down here in beautiful Sussex we were the first instigators of industry, when man first mined flint. We have the largest concentration of Neolithic flint mines in the UK...on my doorstep! In late medieval times, Sussex again preempted the industrial revolution with the advent of iron ore mining in the Weald, which provided Henry 8 with his ship's cannons! I dare say we will have a third industry down here in innovative Sussex when the oil industry really takes off...but when all said & done what will the landscape legacy be? The Neolithic miners left not much more trace of their industry than a few large craters in the ground; the Medieval iron industry left a few hammer ponds - but after all the oil & gas has been extracted in this latest 'industrial revolution' I doubt there will be much more evidence of the latest batch of hydrocarbons that have been harvested...
I say drill, keep the lights on & enhance the balance of payments...the scaremonger stories of the 'frac' industry came from the early days when every cowboy in town wanted to drill his way to a fortune...like some stud without a condom or a care!
