That’s not correct at all, certainly regarding IG and Avacta. No risk is taken whatsoever by IG. If you take a position in Avacta (when available) you will see the trade go through just as if you have bought the shares yourself, unless of course it’s a very large position which might take them some time. The shares are then held by IG until you close the position at which point you will again see the trade go through. This is why you cannot short Avacta through IG as they are not taking any risk position. Therefore there is no conflict of interest in this case. GLA

It's always a worry when a BB becomes full of talk about how spread betting is the same as buying shares on the open market. It's not the same at all and any novice investors should steer well clear unless they are using zero leverage imo.
