RE: Lets have a debate20 Jun 2014 11:46
I wonder rather than buying and expanding that Springowl may push for spinning off some of our ancillary companies like Kalxia? That may get their investment out of jail. It was muted when they first arrived that this could improve shareholder value, but only short term in my view. The other option was to split our operations into two companies – regulated and non regulated.
I do fear that anything we were to buy to expand would end up being a disaster much like our merger.
It does look like the Amaya/Stars deal will spark some more consolidation in the sector by default as no one company is now strong enough to hold a candle to this 100lb gorilla in the room. I still think it would be not the worst idea for Boyd and or MGM to take a look at us to expand their operations outside of the states. My reasoning for saying this is their main competitor ‘Caesars’ with all their massive debt are looking to make money anyway they can be it selling casinos (high overheads) and expanding online (low overheads) it’s common knowledge that 888’s deal to supply software is a short term deal and it strikes me that as they already have a relationship with Amaya that we may see PokerStars being tied in with them in the near future which would leave Boyd/MGM in the cold so to speak. Will Boyd/MGM fight back? They are in much better shape financially than Caesars, so could invest and improve our products no end along with aggressive marketing, something we are woeful at.
Really only spit balling here, any of this make sense?
