With a 1.25mm cut-off, without allowing for any premium for large, fancy gemstones, the figure supplied is $132 a carat.
If we assume the average quality of the diamonds from low standard and diluted ore is at least balanced by the larger and yellow stones, 58,000 carats (which could be more if some finds in January are included) should generate at least $7.6 million (£6.1 million) through the February sale.
The prices obtained for the 20 special stones larger than 10.8 carats, including the 37 carat white diamond, plus the several fancy yellow diamonds will make a big difference.
Any total in excess of $10 million would be welcomed at this very early stage in ramping up, using only low quality and diluted ore so far...
