RE: Have we missed the perfect time for sale?20 Aug 2021 11:57
As someone who knows the region well, Afganistan is awash with mineral resources, $1trillion plus easy. They have the worlds cheapest labour and Taliban have and will continue to bring security throughout the country. The U.S has already been in deep discussions with Taliban for a number of years and will only increase. I see the the U.S embassy opening in the not to distant future.
The big issue is infrastrastructure, they have next to none apart form some highways. No water, no electricity, 1 railway major railway built and funded by Iran which is from the West of Afganistan going down to South East Iran, avoiding ****stan.
The one mine will not fix the future deficit, and will certainly take time to bring back online. The Afgan/Taliban Central Bank has about $10 to its name which will increase overtime when they start turning the fields back to poppy fields and Pablo Taliban turns Narco again. I also see the Chinese throwing money at them quickly if they haven't done so already for favours but be sure Chinese will wants resources in return.
Anyway, we are still years away from anything significant from Afghanistan and I agree the green revolution is just getting started, and the demands are going to be huge with a strong deficit within a few years. On top of this, the West doesn't want to be reliant on China for these future.
