TC wouldn't be in this mess if the Government hadn't dithered so much over Brexit and pushed down the value of the pound.

They have to pay hotels, airlines etc in Euros and Dollars - if I was a TC shareholder I would be very upset.

This idea on not bailing out companies is stupid especially when it is the cheapest option - bail out £200m against repatriation cost of £600m - idiots!!!

I don't think either side wants a war - but then most wars tend to start almost by accident - Iran is very reckless anything could happen - also Trumps policies have been a gift for the hardliners in Iran allowing them to set the agenda against a background of a failing economy - never good.

Diversification into some other mining activity would seem to be logical for an Iron Ore producer like Fortescue - the price of Iron Ore fluctuates wildly $70 - $120 in the last year - polyhalite is likely to maintain a much more stable price structure when it is produced - so it would be a goof fit re cash and profit flow.

So where are we now and what are the prospects for another Gulf War - Saudi is increasing the rhetoric and is calling last weeks attack an act of war - it seems to be increasingly a case of Iran and her allies - Syria, Iraq and Lebanon - V the rest - but will the big players the US, Saudi and Israel actually start a war with Iran or will Iran commit more acts of war to draw them into conflict.

The thing that keeps me very optimistic that SM can change the Government decision on the guarantees is that the Tory's need the brownie points in the run up to an election, also after Brexit it will be a way of asserting independence from the EU - a bold new project made possible by a Government with a vision for the future etc etc....

Also of course it won't cost them a penny and if it goes wrong 5 years from now they probably won't be in power anyway.

The terms of the IPA and the fact that the Government should in fact be following their bureaucrats advice and offering Government guarantees give SM and investors a very clear objective - we simply have to change the Governments mind.

SM's PR machine is clearly in full flow and by the look of some of the newspaper stories is doing a good job.
Residents local to the mine, particularly those who live in the Scarborough and Whitby constituency should be telling their MP that he will be looking for another job if he doesn't get the Government to give the guarantees.

Actually its people who live in the Scarborough and Whitby constituency who are the most important when it comes to signing the petition - with an election looming - the Tory's don't have a very big majority - scare them into action to help SM.

A petition on its own probably won't make any difference at all - agreed.

But put into the mix with everything else - press reports - local and national pressure on politicians - pressure from SM etc etc. - it can make a difference.

There is a good test for the Government this morning - will they help Thomas Cook with a £200 million bail out or will they spend £600 million repatriating the holidaymakers who will get stranded if Thomas Cook goes bust - answers on a postcard please.

Its a Marine Traffic problem - seen it from time to time - usually sorted in a few hours.

Totally agree Oldgimmer - but they do need us when there is a general election - even the citizens of the North and Scarborough and Whitby have a Tory MP.

I don't think we can expect a rebound on the SP unless there is good news - that isn't a reflection on SM.s prospects - it is simply because there are so many traders in now that they will be manipulating the SP up and down for short term profits.

Ideally the SP should be over 7p - the falling average - to be safer from another step down but this may be wishful thinking.

We need some good news!!!
