Recommended reading! This EU speech is a few hours old and presents a highly supportive environment for funding of EU Lithium mining projects. Note the mention of Portugal and Finland!
“Concerning battery raw materials, current EU mining production represents a very small portion of global levels: 14% for nickel, 8% for cobalt, 1% for natural graphite and lithium.
And refining is completely missing in Europe for the latter – which means that even if we were to ramp up production for batteries – as planned – for 2023/25 and invest in extraction activities, we would still need to ship lithium to China and back for refining !
Unless we develop our own capacity.
We have identified with the Member States that there are 10 potential mining projects for lithium that, if developed, could allow the EU to move from 1 to 30% of the world production by 2030.
In the case of battery raw materials, we can see commercially viable projects not securing financing even when fast track permitting process, high sustainability standards and the public acceptance are all secured (e.g. lithium projects in Portugal and Finland).
The US, Canada, Australia are investing massively in this segment of the value chain. And China is acquiring companies single-handedly around the globe.
We therefore need our European Investment Bank to become more fully engaged in raw material projects in exploration, mining and refining – and linking it up with the circular economy (with secondary raw materials), where our competitive advantage lies.
Things are moving: the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is preparing a EUR 60 million Exploration Investment Facility. Similarly, the World Bank has launched a Climate- Smart Mining Facility.
The idea is to develop a portfolio of projects, which, by their nature, are risky – and have longer return on investment (mining project can take up to 10-15 years from planning to production).”.......

You did indeed! I felt that I had crashed the VIP party when I looked into ARCM! I have taken a small stake. The beauty about being a private investor is, if you want, you can design your portfolio to align with DA’s EV battery minerals strategy in a more agile way than he can do with SAV alone given Its legacy projects. Would be helpful if Rio bought us out of Moz which no longer aligns with this strategy.

Now that we seem to have given up on Oman, I was wondering where best to dip a toe in this key metal which should do well out of the EV boom. Came upon Arc Minerals who also have the prospect of Cobalt in their African project. Anyone got any views? I note that a certain Mr Karl Erik Von Bahr has taken a 3% stake recently!

Happy to join the party this morning after researching all relevant matters. Electrical minerals for the low carbon era is the place to be! Largely invested in SAV for lithium but the large copper potential plus cobalt makes this an appealing prospect.

I like the concept of an EV “chassis” that individual marques like Subaru can build their vehicles on. Harks back to the coach-builder approach of the early 20th century. There is certainly no shortage of news on new EV programmes at the moment. When we get plugged-in to the supply chain via an offtake deal, these new EV programmes will start to have some real value. A little more resource size and mine-life defined and we will be more appealing to the battery making community. I am hoping to retire on the proceeds of that deal!

Encouraging and if this is an accurate price forecast then we can look forward to more than 4x gains from this low point. Note that Oman is valued at just 0.5p. A shame because it fits in better than the Moz project with the new strategic positioning of “energy metals for the low carbon era”.

Currently they only own half the European project but the partner is insolvent and is likely to be bought out. The FS for this and the Mexican project is greatly in excess of the current market cap so there is a big gap to be closed. Given the European interest in EVs maybe financing won’t be so challenging? Happy to have a foot in both camps even though it’s a size 12 in SAV’s!

I think we have all been wondering that? However as many of us have been invested for around 4-5 years we possess a kind of weary tolerance of SAV’s potential not being reflected in the price. If you are in the sort of investor who wants returns in a reasonable time frame, probably best to look away. Also it’s probably best to have a read through previous RNS’s to see what has been promised with regard to the delivery of FS and the like. I for one would not wish to raise your hopes to see them disappointed! However if you are a wild optimist with money to burn, welcome on board!

There is lent of scope for updates across the board and with the SP drifting lower, DA must feel some pressure to issue something upbeat? It must be a trade off between wanting to wait until full detail is available and the desire to keep investors onboard in the interim. Without the imminent need to fundraise, as you pointed out on your previous thread, he may prefer to wait until significant Information is available?

LiO2 could become a bargaining chip in the US/China trade war. If China has cornered supply, it will make the US pay for it dearly!

Also worth watching the oil price long term as higher prices/ supply shocks build the case for investment in EVs on top of the environmental benefits.

Ps had a little 100k top-up at these bargain prices!
