There will be a lot of colourful rhetoric to come from these mayors who are positioning themselves as “champions of the people” to secure their own positions. No one has the power to pick and choose which vehicles cross any given territory within Portugal ( unless the mayor is planning a UDI and setting up border posts). To threaten such a thing would in itself be legally questionable.
No doubt, more money on the table, either from grants or SAV or both will dissipate local resistance and the mayors will hold themselves up to be local heroes.

These days it seems to be quite acceptable for even our supreme leaders to talk “balls” as long as it has popular appeal which no doubt the Mayor is courting? We know that “balls” grabs headlines. SAV needs PR that grabs balls.

Bit of a stinging comment at the end - “ the project proposes the sharing of benefits and a "Good Neighborhood ", with the allocation of 500 thousand euros per year for projects in the community.

Fernando Queiroga said that, at the moment, direct aid to agriculture in the two affected parishes is 1.5 million euros, support that will be lost with the Barroso Mine.

I wonder if that is true both in the amount and the potential loss?

I agree with Malik and as posted on Friday I foresee fireworks here. The BCN gives the Chinese a foothold in Europe via Its 42% in ZNWD which may be worrying the ZNWD board. If ever there was a time to dilute that %share it would be now before the BCN deal goes through. Capital raise for the Solarworld half or merger with EMH might help achieve that. Otherwise you know who will be calling the shots and maybe a lot more hands on than BCN going forward ?

The prize is worth the fight. We know VW are to pay Northvolt £1.2 Billion a year for 10 years to make batteries. The SAV / GALP/ Northvolt supply chain will be pump- primed.

Meanwhile GEOTA – the Grupo de Estudos de Ordenamento do Território e Ambiente – the environmental NGO with support in certain academic circles is accusing Portugal of “green washing” the lithium mining project.

Definitely check out SAV, currently a bargain. EMH is priced at more lofty levels. If Gangfeng end up owning BCN’s 42% in ZNWD there could be fireworks as Chinese money is offered for further ownership of Deutsch Lithium and maybe even a JV with EMH in return for an offtake agreement and engineering expertise? Definitely continuing to hold here.

Well......as far as Europe is concerned its all about low-impact “green mining” using renewable energy sources. Something that SAV is committed to and essential to get our environmental permitting as well as our supply chain credentials.

I note that American Lithium is set to acquire fellow lithium junior Plateau Energy Metals, at a 50% premium. Mkt cap ~ $64m now $96m.
The pair said the deal would consolidate two significant and strategic undeveloped lithium assets in the Americas, "at a time of rapidly growing lithium demand in the context of increasing focus on electric vehicles, energy storage and renewable energy generation".

Some folk have suggested that BCN’s 44% in ZNWD may be spun off during the proposed acquisition process. I’m not so sure. ZNWD may be another foothold in Europe for Gangfeng with 44% of 50% of Deutschland lithium. They may want to hang on to it and offer a JV and offtake deal in return for further equity just like they did with BCN? Rinse and repeat. This game for China is all about grabbing as much global lithium as they can get hold of and dominating the market.

Just seems to reinforce the SAV /GALP/ Northvolt partnership. Lusorecursos has not been invited to the party and isn’t happy. Will be easier to monetise this partnership when “heads of agreement” turn into binding contracts.

It seems the environmental NGO bringing the action is upset with APA for not releasing the full environmental impact prepared by SAV a year ago. For a moment I thought we were on the same side against bureaucratic delays until I noted that a few paragraphs later we were referred to as “foreign interests”. They are certainly not holding back with accusations of malfeasance?
