Like I said yesterday, there is a big “for sale” sign on SAV’s MdB assets and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bidding war with GALP, VW, Fortescue, Gangfeng or any other interested party pitching in. Once the EIA is granted, it may start in earnest? More exciting times than we have been used to ahead?

You are wise to be wary of posts like that. They try to panic people into selling so that they can scoop up cheap shares. Anyone booking a £27k loss on yesterday’s RNS would be an idiot.
Also the usual de-rampers on here predicting 3p, 2p etc. want your shares for peanuts. Ignore them!

I don’t see any negative issues in extracting ourselves from a proposal that would have undervalued our assets based on current spod prices. GALP is an oil refiner that closed its refinery in Porto with the ambition to turn it into a lithium refinery. All good intentions but may have taken some time to achieve. Maybe DA has seen a quicker route to market and a better deal to be done. All will be revealed in good time. Meanwhile I’m holding with confidence.

Feels like a big change has happened. We are now ready to sell part (or all?) of MdB, offtake contracts, inward investment without offtake, etc.
DA has clearly seen the opportunity to maximise the opportunity of scarce and rising spod prices to drive up our valuation. As the names and interests of these players are revealed, we should see a substantial re-rate in the SP.
also we mustn’t forget his intention to unwind Moz to make this a pure-play lithium opportunity?

Jamie, I don’t think anybody other than yourself is complaining about a one month delay to the EIA process? If it helps the community to disseminate the information in it then that’s fine with me. However if it’s just an attempt to derail the process then that’s a bit pathetic?
My worry about some of these activist movements ( say no to mining etc) is they are only interested in opposing stuff. I read quite a lot about Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace tactics to fight oil extraction and having pushed the decarbonisation agenda it seems that they are now unhappy to support extraction of minerals to bring this about. Seems like opposing stuff and winning court cases is more important to them than achieving a compromise and positive outcome. Saw a photo of their activists dancing with delight at Shell being told to cut their CO2 output. Shell, like GALP, is being forced to transition towards other business streams with reduced emissions eg lithium refining. No doubt the protestors will oppose that too?

Jamie, you are a relative newcomer on here but I think it’s important to note that in the spirit of building community engagement, SAV opened a community information office and has been publishing regular detailed project information in the form of community newsletters since 2017. As such there have been many opportunities outside the formal EIA process for all stakeholders to understand, query, object to or approve of plans.
The legal mechanisms for obtaining “social license” for mining from communities in Portugal may or may not be ideal but all SAV can do is to adhere to the current rules that apply to its application.

Yes it’s all about reducing CO2 in the supply chain - low carbon mining, production and transport to differentiate from the Chinese batteries (mined in Aus, refined in China and shipped to Europe). The EU will only allow the former in its EVs in future.

The sad thing Jamie is that everyone invested here is hoping for a win-win for both the company and the local community. Surely a deal that benefits everyone is better than a stand-off in the village streets and cannot be unachievable?

I agree it’s depressing but I don’t agree we should bury our heads in the sand. SAV needs to get some truth out there by briefing all these journalists who are otherwise just writing the protestors’ viewpoint. We need to change the narrative and reinforce the positive benefits. Otherwise even when the EIA is approved we will appear no more attractive to new investors.

Every day the rhetoric and now threats are ratchet up another notch or two. Just wondering when the village SAV information office will get torched and effigy of DA hung in the olive trees?

This new article in Portugal Today started well but eventually fell into the trap of assuming the lithium mining process in Portugal would involve brine and an enormous amount of water. Water, being a precious commodity in Portugal, would raise alarm bells if ultra-large scale extraction was proposed.
How do you get these journalists to report fact not fiction? Again I would suggest that there is a PR battle to be won and SAV has to do more to dispel these myths.
