The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
The next time protesters put their hands in concrete, to disrupt work, there needs to be a man with a chainsaw who can release them.
I well remember GW Pharma, where the share price fluctuated wildly for ages, and one day one felt elated and the next deflated. Those who held on made a lot of money, but it took years!
At the present time I hold 30000 shares in sirius, and hope that they aren't diluted, as happened ti Igas fairly recently.
I am holding the shares through thick and thin, and sirius may come right in my lifetime, or maybe my children will benefit. The potential is huge, and the problems many, and the stockmarkets are in some turmoil and overblown at present, which is disturbing to say the least.
Very good point about our irritating friend, and I think Teggsy is probably on the right track. I can only wish him luck keeping ahead of the sisters!
What good news that the three protesters have been sent to jail, with all the extra problems that a prison sentence brings. They appear to be fairly useless individuals on the outside, with time to spend causing mischief, so I hope they are put to work while they are at "Her Majesty's Pleasure". They won't be, of course, though the prison piano might get tuned!
moped or mopped.....
Do pull yourself together, and don't be so casual with our language, please.
At 55 one can take a lump sum, and draw down each year thereafter, which is what I did, and continue to do each year.
I have held a sipp for many years now, and fin HL very good to deal with, and the costs are very fair.
However, I have reduced the sipp considerably, as I find that it is better for me to hold shares in a normal share account, as any losses I incur,(and there have been several including a big one with Carillion), can be offset against my tax, whereas the sipp doesn't allow this. It is the same with an isa, which can be a bore if there are losses incurred.
Alan G says he would be buying more at this stealing price, but would be investing for the tax man!
Why not admit that he doesn't have the courage of his convictions?
No shame in that, but don't give all that baloney, if you think it is as good as you suggest.
I know a man who put his whole pension pot into GW Pharma, and was accused of foolhardiness on various occasions by family and friends, and after years of ups and downs, did very well out of it. He took the long view, and stuck to his guns. Those of us here invested, should either hold on or sell out now. I take the view that playing the stockmarket is a form of gambling, the difference being that one is unlikely to lose the lot, and if one isn't prepared to take a hit, it is better to stay out. I like the idea of Sirius and what potential there is there, so am going with it, long term, I imagine.
How wonderful is volatility, as we have seen in the past week, and how these little profits which are here to be made, add up, and make up for the 20 old for 1 new share fiasco earlier this year. If the present trend continues, I might end up getting into profit.
Hush Chesh, none of us want to waken a dead parrot, and some of us might relish an opportunity to buy in at 30p!
As expected, the three people arrested for Anti Fracking are just as I imagined them to be, having done a bit of background work on them. Worthy in their own ways, but misguided. Sadly, they will be released without any real punishment, to continue on with their futile protests, although a criminal record does have its downside.
It must be very clear to most people, that the UK is entering a period of great uncertainty, not just adapting to leaving the EU, but also,( and more disconcerting) creating the awareness that Russia is intent on creating instability in the west, and holds a few cards that could create major problems to us especially, ie, gas supply.
I find it hard to imagine that there people in the UK who would try to deny us the huge benefit of self sufficiency in energy. Are these people stupid, or are they some sort of 5th columnists, intent on doing their country down. Some of them display all the characteristics of such people, and bear the grudge.
We have become very easy going in this country, to the extent that common sense is often overridden by just a few dissenters. It is time to move along with great haste!
Filtered out is the best way to deal with this situation. To make it even better, this person has to listen to all of us, and has been effectively muzzled. A suitable punishment, I think, and the share price has risen on the news!
Rencently, I suggested that the best way to deal with someone who has a pathological disposition such as our friend, is to listen, but to refrain from reply. There is no bullying here, but a good deal of irritating banter, which ought to be ignored.
Most of my shares are down today, but what an opportunity to top up on Igas, if it goes below £1, or lower. Let us hope for lower! I love a bit of turmoil.....
I live in a part of the country which has nearby quarrying, (blasting), which has caused considerable shaking of my house over the years. We did have an earthquake some years back, which felt very peculiar. I had to leave the house!
I see igas at 38p all day long. Can anyone improve on my prediction?
I am too old to "dump" shares in such an excellent company which has such potential. AZN has served me really well over many years, and I have learned to roll with the punches which one has to take from time to time. To me, AZN appears a fairly safe bet anyway.
Those areas of the leafy suburbs of London that are prone to earth quakes may have to be sacrificed to the common good. Self reliance on energy is paramount!
Retard sounds offensive, and isn't the problem. There are those who argue just for the sake of being argumentative, and others who do so on account of some issue they have had in the past, which sets them off!
We have little idea of what the issue is in the present case, and are very unlikely to be enlightened unless told.
A problem shared, etc, etc. We are a sympathetic lot, I know, and all men together, so a bit of unburdening might just do the trick, which would cease the mantra.......58p, 58p, 58p.
Enough said.
