I think your are a bit premature with the demise of fossil fuels and Russia for that matter!
BP is investing heavily in future "green" sources, solar, wind and hydrogen and I'm sure the levels of investment will increase with demand but for the time being it must continue to pump oil & gas.
Witness the extraordinary price levels of gas, oil and fuels to see how in demand it is.

Don't worry to much about the current negativity, you'll probably get that back with the next dividend.
The future is definitely with the miners and I don't think you'll go far wrong holding BHP.
I notice your other post re advice for an 18 year old.
Mine would be to start investing early, look for sound dividend paying companies, spread your risk over say 3 sectors and get them in an ISA, each year.
Then you can look forward to that early retirement!

Buybacks can be of little effect if there not carried out correctly but any company who issues additional shares as part of a bonus or pension scheme must do something to avoid the potential of dilution.
Ideally you want a company to maintain a buyback and REDUCE the number of shares in issue.
Buying 2,3 or 4 times as many back as are issued each year, imagine if BP took say 5 Billion shares away from the current shares in issue (I haven't checked but it was around 20 Billion last time I looked)
All things being equal and assuming the MCAP doesn't change each share would be worth that much more,
£80 Billion MCAP ÷ 20 Billion shares = £4
£80 Billion MCAP ÷ 15 Billion shares = £5.33
So buybacks can be beneficial but they need to continue and be accompanied by a progressive dividend policy.

Despite these politicians being voted in by the electorate they did NOT want to carry out what the MAJORITY of people had voted for.
Probably upset that they were no longer destined to have a few years with their noses in that particular trough!

It's not BP setting the share price it's nervous investors!
When I look at this company all I can see is upside, (barring a massive and lengthy recession)
Oil is $100+, no signs of any immediate drop (down to say $80) Massive profits, debt being reduced significantly, share buybacks continuing, possible increase in the divi.
People need oil & gas, I really cannot understand people selling at these levels!

Historically $6000 per M/T was always considered to be a HIGH price, a ceiling in effect for Copper.
The spot prices are still over $8000 and have traded over $10000.
Long term Copper prices are only going one way and that's upwards as the "green" energy future will demand HUGE levels of Copper.

Some of the Kola peninsula is open pit, there's sub surface as well but there is not the issue of VERY deep mining carried out at the Bushveld complex in South Africa.

I haven't read the full chain of your posts but I noticed Eurasia Mining got a mention.
The reason the MCAP went to £1 Billion was due to the potential assets they have access to, possibly £200 Billion or more and the fact they have had potential suitors looking at them.
Putin obviously hasn't done them any favours kicking off in the Ukraine but it really wouldn't surprise me if the Chinese put up the cash with Norilsk Nickel ( Who are on Eurasia's doorstep)
We will see, there have been an awful lot of short positions closed in the last week or so.

I would imagine any loss through mothballing this facility will be more than made up by the demand for the likes of Copper and Nickel.
The world's going "green" and the demand for coal will surely fall. 2030 is still some way away and if China or India are still burning coal they may well be in the market to purchase it.

I think until major Western governments accept it as legal tender, ie "can I pay my tax bill with it" its worthless.
