Firstly to answer your point about Italian subsidies to farmers. They are apparently huge! On coffee all raw materials imported from outside the EU attract zero or very low tariff. But coffee products competing with Italian ones attract a tariff up to 11.5 per cent

Whoever did the survey is rubbish. Grocery prices 8.79 per cent lower in UK. What planet are they on. And yes I have shopped all over Italy and it is still a lot cheaper even with the exchange rate. Local produce is normal country wide.

And yes I frequently use UK suopermarkets including Tesco

You say in your post that the EU farmers have to produce to a higher standard so it costs them more. So why is food cheaper in Italy than UK and yet is of the highest quality possibler.

Why does it cost EU more to grow good food. Here in Italy quality is second to none. Price is mainly cheaper than UK. For instance most food is local even in the Coop. I bought two slices of local pork for euro 1.2 Of course if you go to posh butcher it will be more. The Christmas before last I went to buy some nice forerib. The butcher said that I was not having that but a joint of veal instead. Very Italian. And boy was it nice and lasted 3 meals. And it is all seasonal aprt obviously for such imports as bananas and pineapple both cheaper than UK. And the chickens really do taste of something. Not that cheap admittedly but not battery either

I am way out of date so do not know current law. Basically fraudulent preference is when new creditors are preferred over current ones. Therefore taking security could then prejudice unsecured creditors. It might deoend on whether the company is technically solvent and indeed could be described as a going concern by auditors. Another thing that needs looking at is that you have a consortium attempting the take over. This is technically known as a concert party.
