I have just read a book by Colm Toibin regarding a trip he made between the North and South about 30 years ago. Then and now the boarder swivels about like a snake and on a drive one will continually be switching between each country. Then people crossed the boarder to for instance fill up with fuel. These are two minor economies and there should be no need for other than occasional spot checks. On the other hand small though they are they are of supreme importance to all Irish people on both sides. Typical EU to get bogged down on things which common sense could deal with. After all the border between sweden and norway works well enough.

Interesting comparison with the old Midland they had blue cheques. They always seemed a bit second rate like the old NP before it joined with the classier Westminster. Their computer systems were not compatible and it took them years to recover. Lloyds looks fundamentally much better bet than Barclays or RBS. Good income increasing steadily and a yield which is quite tasty. Better than a deposit account and probably secure. When I was an IFA and the market had a set back my old ladies used to be well briefed by me and always remarked that although the capital had gone down the income remained the same or went up.
