Bots - “glacial growth and dividend cuts”… the silence in answer to my question below is deafening… but by no means surprising.

Bots - Glacial growth and dividend cuts… doesn’t make any sense to me. The reason for the subdued share price of I3E is a reflection of the gas price. If gas price recovers, as it is expected to, then so will the company’s revenues, profitability, so will the share price. The company re-structured its debt to give it the platform it needs from which to grow organically. It was that plan that I am invested in. I am not invested in a cut-and-run-for-the-hills-at-the-first-sniff-of-a-deal-on-the-table. What am I missing here?

Bangrak, I appreciate your perspective on PGM’s market and valuations, and yet the difference between SLP here and THS is that SLP pays a solid dividend and THS? Are they paying a dividend at all? It might be largely operating in the same market as SLP but it has a completely different investment profile. Apples and oranges springs to mind. Thoughts?

Just when things are looking up for the company, this happens. Personally, it doesn’t really make any sense to me, this deal. I’ve always been happy to keep on buying shares as the price drops. Just happy reinvesting the dividends in shares. Seriously thought that with the restructuring of the finances not that long ago, and with the possibility of gas prices improving through this heating season, and beyond, we might see an improvement in margins, and start throwing-off decent cash, putting us in a strong position for a share buy-back programme and/or an accretive acquisition. It’s disappointing is this, but also not surprising. All too familiar pattern of BOD’s being the only shareholders really benefiting from a deal like this… by way of a very large brown paper envelope that will keep them and their families comfortable for the rest of their days.

According to the pressure groups pushing for the ban in the US, the US tobacco industry targeted its marketing campaign at young African Americans in the latter part of 20th Century and into 21st Century, and it is said, discounted menthol cigs to encourage the take-up in younger and more financially-disadvantaged people. Reading these dispositions honestly made me wonder if in actual fact this unfortunate group of people had been forced to smoke at gunpoint by the tobacco companies.

GKerr, interesting demographic patterns around this particular segment of the market. Collective unconscious human behaviour is such an interesting subject. I would love to know the history of how menthol cigarettes actually established themselves so firmly in this demographic sector.

When I was at school, one of my smoking buddies used to smoke menthols because he knew that he would be the last resort for people to cadge cigs off… maybe Biden was also one of those???

I’d say the BOD’s are as acutely aware as the rest of us the life expectancy of the assets from which the company operates. I’ve always understood that the Company will take the initiative to move on the acquisition of additional assets at the right price and in the right market conditions. What keeps me holding here is that I have trust in the BOD’s to stay true to that. For me, trust and confidence in the board’s investment strategy is a prerequisite to holding in any stock. In the meantime, CAML continues to throw off cash in current market conditions whilst other more highly-geared operators are feeling the squeeze of the cost of debt. In the context of that backdrop, I’m confident that opportunities will open up in time, and CAML will be in a good position to capitalise.

I agree with everything that you have said Happysparrow, although I think the WEF will target India and drag them kicking and screaming into a proxy war with ****stan before doing the same with China and Taiwan.
