A large royalty wouldn't be the funding of choice for BHP or Newmont presumably. It ties the company to an expensive debt for the life of mine and it makes SolGold much less attractive as a takeover target.

For BHP, I could see them moving on to the next in their list, be that Filo or whoever.

When most of the SolGold retail is stressing about a takeover, as it has for as many years as I can remember, the who the deal alienates is very important.

We saw Sandeep Biswas' toys go from the pram when SOLG gave away 1% for $100m. I wonder what might happen if SOLG repeat it for 5-10x the amount?

Lets hope Tom Palmer and BHP now have a stronger nose. Otherwise it could be carnage watching them and retail fight to unwind equity positions.

So it acts as a put up or shut up to those firms who didn't like the last deal with FNV or Osisko.

Scott is banking on them putting up because they certainly won't vote for him again in this year's AGM if he goes and gives away 10% of future profits for $800m.
