Bod willing
I do hope they're paying attention to what's going on. I'm less nervous about the CDT price going back up than I am about our esteemed BoD somehow managed to balls this up
I just want them to buy the shares asap. Get it done at the lowest possible cost, then sit and wait for them to hopefully go up. Sounds so simple on paper, but seeing an actual tangible amount of shares and value against that original investment would really help the portfolio overall and would be a much more attractive proposition for new investors
It's always a possibility. Maybe Vela will go bust? Maybe CDT will recover just as quickly as it dropped and 1 month's time Vela will have made millions? It's completely out of our hands, unless you choose to sell - and let's face it, at this stage and after all the ups and downs since the SGSC investment was first announced none of us are going to do that are we? No point worrying about it, just keep them peeled for the RNS
They just need to push the button on it. Get the max amount of shares then like the rest of us sit back and hope they go up in the coming months. It's been so volatile so far hopefully it'll calm down and from this low it'll steadily creep north. That's the hope, but absolutely there's no point in waiting any longer and missing getting in at the lowest possible price for the highest possible amount of shares. That's half the job done. Wake up BoD!
Absolutely right. They need to snap them up as quickly as possible to get the $5 low rate then be ready to hit sell if/when they head back up again. Might be a bit of a waiting game by the looks of it but same as every other share I'm sure they'll go up and down, got to be an opportunity for the BoD to make some decent money on them at some point in the future. They've only got to do two things now after all, buying low shouldn't be an issue at the moment. Then they've just got the selling high bit to worry about. Simple, huh?
...and Vela looking weak. Back down to .02, just ridiculous. Why sell now?
Hopefully we'll see an AGM date and agenda soon - there's always a chance that'll have a strategy update on it, but they seem pretty set on the current one of sticking a pin in and chucking £200k or £300k in to see if it works. My suspicion is that consolidation might raise it's head again simply because it was voted down a couple of years ago but they won't have forgotten about it and there are a whole lot of shares in issue....
On a totally unrelated note, have you noticed that some ftse shares are having a nightmare currently? I try to avoid aim nowadays this is one of the last I own but the stuff I've been watching on the ftse is tanking, makes it very difficult to know where the bottom is. Nearly bought some PHNX yesterday to take advantage of their bumper divi, if I had I'd be 6% down already which would have wiped out the divi in one stroke. WPP are having a mare, PZC, SAFE, all the nice boring ones I've been watching are at year lows. it's coming to something where Vela looks like a safer bet....
Up until now I absolutely agree it's been shambolic but I've definitely seen worse on aim with shares that are basically just ponzi schemes, crooked directors, massive mismanagement. I'm no fan of this BoD but I think the worst we can say of them is that they've chosen some howlers which isn't a great look for an investment company but in fairness we've probably all done the same at some point. Difference is we're spending our own money, they're spending other people's.
At least now there's a chance to see a decent return and for once I agree with LVU this could (indeed, should) be a decent entry point - as long as the board get the timing right and the CDT sp plays ball
Yeah it's all about the timing on this - looks like CIZ may have got the that slightly off, be interesting to see what happens over there today.
This is a chance for the Board to show that they're professionals with good judgement who can make the most of their big moment and a potentially transformative deal. Let's hope they have their heads screwed on and are paying close attention, for all the poor judgements and bad communication etc JN's proved himself before, time to do it again now!
My god you really are Mister Positive aren't you? Let's hope your faith in the board and their decision making isn't sadly misplaced....
Unbelievable that it's back to .023 again. Classic Vela
I think you're deliberately misunderstanding what I'm saying - I'm absolutely not holding them responsible for my investing decisions or anything out of their control or the vagaries of the aim market. I'm just bored of seeing them persistently making a mess or not addressing the things that are 100% within their control. Like communication to the shareholders and the wider world, timekeeping with the 'quarterly' update, the dd they do on potential investments (TSP anyone?) and transparency with things like the Laiker deal. All of which are certainly not under the control of anyone but BF and JN but all of which frustrate shareholders and erode sentiment
You may be right LVU but patience is finite and wears out. This is Vela's big chance but we're already seeing the gains dribbling away daily. Also, why set the bar so low? Be patient / it'll come good / this is a steal / golden tickets etc etc, shouldn't you expect more of experienced businesspeople that are handling millions of £ of investor's money? Your money included? If you or I were this lazy and disinterested in our jobs I suspect we'd not last long, but if you're a director and you don't get voted out in the AGM then I guess you can do what you want and still get paid
Absolutely right. Same script every time with Vela. But why are people selling when all they have to do is wait for the next RNS in maximum a week? Just madness
In the excitement of the merger being completed and a rise in the sp it's worth bearing in mind that there are a few things coming up at this time of year that we should be looking out for and expecting from the Board. First up is the quarterly which should drop any day now you'd think, and in fairness I guess they're holding on to be able to present what's happened and what they plan to do next in a coherent way. Then I think I'm right in saying shouldn't there be an AGM coming up? You'd expect them to RNS this separately with their proposals, I wonder if we'll see the 50:1 consolidation raise it's head again, or a change or investment strategy?
With all this flurry of activity you'd think this was a good time for the wonderful Novus Communications that Vela are paying for to swing in to action - remember them?! If you have a look on their website it's not exactly shouting the merger news from the rooftops and worryingly one of their other clients, and very prominently so, is Truspine...
RNS 26/04/22:
Appointment of PR and IR Adviser
The Board of Vela (AIM: VELA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Novus Communications Limited as its PR and IR adviser with immediate effect.
Brent Fitzpatrick, Chairman of Vela, commented: "We anticipate that Novus Communications' experience and professional expertise, particularly in the small cap market, will enhance Vela's communications; and enable its shareholders and other stakeholders to gain a clearer understanding and appreciation of Vela's investing strategy and of the rationale behind its investment portfolio."
Once they've decided what to do with these £4million quids worth of shares or whatever it turns out to be it might be nice to see some Director buys - as most companies have. Actually show a bit of faith in their own abilities. It just seems like an ideal opportunity for a reboot what with a big financial boost, investor interest and media coverage, an AGM to present to the world what the plan is etc etc.
Sadly I'm not sure they've got it in them to recognise the opportunity right in front of their noses based on the general indifference shown over the last 3 years or so, but wouldn't it be great?
Uh huh.... people have been saying that for the last 3 years.... but yeah if an injection of £4million quid can't do it then nothing can
Well what a surprise - no morning RNS from the board to inform the market what their intentions are or to update on the portfolio and yesterday's gains start to fall away. I sincerely hope we hear from them at some point today
I'd view anyone calling themselves Mister Positive as instantly suspicious at the best of times! Now MFDoom that turned up earlier, that's someone to listen to (or at least the real MFDoom was)
When it comes to money I prefer to hold on to facts rather than dreams but maybe I'm just old and boring. Anyway I'm still in mostly because I'm still underwater and I've waited a long time already. Interested to see what tomorrow brings and what the BoD decide is the correct way forward. Let's hope they get it right.
Wouldn't it just Joe. That might persuade some of the LTH's to stay in and some of the newcomers to hang around too. Just not sure the BoD have got it in their locker to do it but hey, we might be pleasantly surprised. I'm sure we all expect to see an RNS from them tomorrow
