There are a number of different cytokines produced by the human body in reaction to viruses, bacteria etc. As was seen with Sars-Cov-1, these types of coronaviruses have an ability to create cytokine dysfunction, where effectively you get an imbalance in the immune response, leading to the overproduction of macrophages and other T-cells which causes lung inflammation and fluid to build up. Interferon beta has been found to restore balance in the immune response (stimulating more efficient antiviral activity), which avoids the build up / reduces the cytokine storm in the more severe cases.
It is a treatment for a symptom of coronavirus, and not a treatment for the disease itself. It has no effect on the mechanism for viral replication whatsoever. This is all available to read in numerous medical journals and it essentially what Interferon Beta is all about.....if you don't know this then you don't know what you're investing in.
