Totally agree...that's been one of my key stand points - if the world economy goes into meltdown then yes, long term SL and other fields mightn't get developed...otherwise they will. Then it's a case of not getting taken out at a ridiculously low price.

FFS...behave yourselves. I do tend to blame the moaning ********s, who keep on saying this is not going to get sanctioned (in which case this is worthless) yet STILL haven't sold out, which is totally illogical, but those reacting to them need to not engage with their input.

I know they have to be careful regarding the wording when it comes to planning...but the "could" irks me.
The islanders appear to want all the benefits of the oil industry (the dosh) but seem a little reticent about having anyone down there working on it.
So they should get on with it....if they actually want the oil revenues.

the older I get the more bemused I get at how binary most people are in so many (all?) situations in life.
FBoom thinks the above is going to happen tomorrow and oil has had it's day....lots of other posters think electric cars have no future and cars will run forever on oil based fuels.
Both are wrong - the truth is somewhere in between.
Regardless of the "peak oil" deniers mocking of those who realise the truth ie.oil is a finite resource (like Iron Ore, coal, rare earth minerals (imagine when we run out of them and the youngsters can't have their mobys!!) , diamonds etc.)...so petrol will, eventually (c.2050/60?), be a thing of the past. Of course batteries suffer from the problem of being reliant on some of the finite resources on Earth aforementioned.
So basically our grandchildren are ****ed.

I think the "oil baron" thing is a bit of a myth....but not only are electric cars coming - they are already here.
However, oil is not going away any time soon, there's about 4-5 billion people who don't have a car...they'll want one sooner or later and petrol powered ones will remain cheaper/more accessible for at least 20 years.

I agree....if we do end up with a pay out....it's a bonus. Having said that - the legal company that have took the case on must be confident.
