Poker I recently flew to Mulhouse then drove to Basel Switzerland to watch Federer play. There is no hard border. The border is mostly technological using cameras. I could have bought any amount of good I could stash in my car. I believe the cameras are used to check in the lorries registrations. Poker if the currency devalues ppl are more inclined to buy their exports since it makes them more competitive and they can buy more in their own currency. This is not a contentious theory, we've all been on cheap holidays to places with weak currencies. I'm not saying devaluation is a good thing it would be better if these places could make difficult reforms but failing that devaluation is a useful tool.

Yes A E Marsh I agree but a lot of that will be a reflection of choices. Life expectancy is much higher in South Korea and Israel but health expenditure is much lower per head than here. Mostly because diets are far better I suspect. Poirest in our society have highest BMI which is bad news. The government doesn't force anyone to be overweight.

Poker you really don't understand what a devaluation is do you? It's an insidious way to cut ppl wages without them noticing. It's hard to take away pension and nice benefits etc but devalue the currency and control wage growth and you've just reduced labour costs.

Auson hard to have a serious debate with anyone who believes inflation numbers are falsified. And no I think the French are great ppl. Just this currency union with Germany jars with their fantastic social model. Since costs of labour in Germany are lower jobs have just wandered over the border which is terrifically bad for ordinary French folk.
