All seemed very positive, cost cutting in US, positive noises about the div, etc. Nice to see this and BG swimming against the trend today.

Surely you understand how a dividend works and the effect it has on a sp when it goes ex-div? Why would it be any different to this div? If a company is valued at say 422p, and then gives you 92p back, do you not see that it will then only be worth 330p? There is no such thing as free money!! If the same company, worth 422p pays a normal half-yearly div of say 15p, then when the share goes ex-div it will usually open 15p down, ie 407p. That is the way the market works, have you never noticed the sp fall on ex-div day on any shares you own?? It may well not fall by the whole 15p, or it may fall by more, depending on which way the share/ market is moving at the time. Put it this way, if you lend a mate £20 for beers, then later on in the day borrow back £5 from him for a kebab, you wouldn't still expect him to repay you £20, would you?? He would only owe you £15. It works the same way with shares. If you buy for 422p, but then get 92p back, that share would only owe you 330p!!! You would still have the same total as your original investment, but you would have 80% as shares and 20% as cash. Whatever contract you buy on, be it T3 or T20, you will have to make sure that you will appear on the register on 11/2 in order to get the div. Hope this explains the situation, but please don't take my word for it, please seek professional advice. Do you not think if it was that easy to get some free money we would all be queuing at the bank asking for a loan to buy a million shares as we were onto a sure fire winner!!!

This will be my last comment to you on this matter, after which you can rant as much as you like and drag up as much old material as you see fit. We live in a democracy, you are allowed your views just as much as i am allowed mine. You see BAE as the root of all evil in the world and anyone who holds their shares must also be evil by association. I however am not as easily swayed by all of the negative press as you are, see BAE as a great British company, and like 1000's of other investors have absolutely no qualms about holding their shares. With all of the unrest in the world i am happy to know that we have one of the leading companies in the world effectively on our side. As for my comment of "helping to combat financial fraud" i was of course referring to the work carried out by Norkom Group, which BAE now owns. Do a little research!! You sound very Dictatorial in your views, you are 100% right and no-one else is allowed an opinion. What would happen to me in a state where you had power and I dared to oppose you? Would I be imprisoned or maybe meet my fate at the end of a gun? Who would you buy your ammo from? Learn to live and let live. If, BAE have ever been guilty of any wrong-doing in the past, have they not, as you said, been found guilty in a court and paid their dues? Do you not believe in the re-habilitation of offenders? Are People/companies not allowed a second chance? How can you be so sure that from now on BAE will not be a paragon of virtue? Nothing you or anyone else has to say will make me change my mind or sell my shares. And i doubt very much you will influence any others either. So as Womo said, maybe we should give it a rest. From now on I will only post BAE news, comments on results and contracts won, etc. If you want to carry on your one man war you will have to find someone else to play with. Very, very old news. As for the corruption allegations, which BAE have always strongly denied, it goes on all over the world. You cannot find a single oil or mineral extraction licence anywhere in the world which has not involved someones palm being greased. Grow up. It is a way of life in large parts of the world. Thank god if ever we need defending we will have our troops backed by BAE products to call upon, and not some sniveling little war-shy **** like yourself as our only defense. God protect us from people like you!!

Exactly who did Chile go to war with???? There may have been some internal unrest, and some of Pinochet's opposers may have found themselves on the wrong end of a prison sentence or a bullet. But War!!! Doesn't the same thing happen in China, Burma and North Korea? Are any of them at war? Didn't exactly the same thing happen in South Africa, N. Ireland, Sri Lanka, etc, etc. Remember one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. It all depends on whose side you are on. Wasn't Mandela once held up by the western World as a terrorist? Now he is fated by all the world leaders. Surely you are not suggesting that BAE is responsible for backing all of the terrible regimes around the world, are you? Surely they must have backed the good guys occasionally, or else the British Government would have had something to say about it, don't you think? When the war-mongerer Blair took us into Iraq, apart from bigging up his own enormous ego, it was partly to depose Hussain - who was waging a battle of attrition against the Marsh Arabs, and anyone else who opposed him - and partly under the now ludicrous notion of finding WOMD. Presumably some of the weapons used by us in that war were BAE's, are you against that? If so, can we assume you backed the dictator Hussain? Or are you just very selective in what theatres of war you refer to, conveniently forgetting the ones where BAE's products have been of immense use to the safety of our troops and the eventual outcome?? Unfortunately we all need weapons to protect ourself against potential threats. Is it not better that we have one of the finest companies in the world in the UK, on our side, protecting our troops and providing jobs for our workforce? Or would you rather we had to rely on a supplier from another part of the world, that, with a change of government or allegiance, could leave us defenceless at the mercy of one of these dictators you seem so concerned about? In a Utopian world all would be lovely. We wouldn't tread on the daisies, and would love everyone whatever their race, colour, creed, sexual orientation, colour of hair, etc, etc. But we live in a world governed by religion, money, military power and natural resources. The world is full of people and governments that crave what someone else has, so there will always be conflict. Religion vs religion, mighty vs weak, haves vs have nots. Shouting 'Strong Sell' at BAE will change nothing, it just makes you look like you've read a headline in some trendy left-wing paper without researching the full picture yourself. You may just as well demand that everyone becomes a Vegetarian, or a Christian!!! Have a good life and don't stress too much about things you cannot change.

BAE to acquire Norkom Group, the financial crime and fraud prevention company for £180 million. Ian King - Chief Executive of BAE Systems said: The combination will result in a significantly enhanced offering for customers and present an opportunity for accelerated growth for BAE Systems in the fast growing cyber and intelligence services sector. Norkom's technology platform together with BAE Systems' complementary technology and rich knowledge of the security space will create a fantastic opportunity to bring additional offerings to the market". Nice to know that as well as protecting our shores and our troops with its products, it is also helping to combat financial fraud. We should all sleep safer at night knowing that this Great British Company has our best interests at heart. God Save the Queen.

Nice to see the sp over 1400p, just a shame about the poor sub 1% yield!!

It works just like any other dividend, it's not free money!!! Yes you will get 92p per share, but then on the day it goes ex-div the share price will fall by 92p to compensate. So instead of having say 1000 shares at 442p, you will end up with 1000 shares at 350p, and 1000 x 92p = £920. So the value of your shares - 'your pension pot' - decreases but you get some cash which you can re-invest elsewhere if you like. Similarly if you plan to invest £20k pre Feb11th - you will have to buy pre Feb 9th, the day it goes ex-div, in order to appear on the register by Feb 11th, you cannot afford to cut it too fine or you will lose the div - you may get 4520 shares at 442p, but will end up with 4520 shares at 350p and 4520 x 92p = £4158.40. So your shares would only be worth £15,820 when you came to sell, and you will have incurred two sets of dealing charges!!! Nothing for free I'm afraid!!! Where the clever money to be made here IMHO is by buying now - you could have bought sub 420p when I first posted on this - bank on a small rise pre special div and the perceived benefits of the merger - take the 92p div, but then not see the full 92p fall the day it goes ex-div and hence have a lower base cost, or a small profit on selling. For example, buy at say 435p, see the price rise to say 445p pre div, take the 92p div but only see the sp fall to say 360p on ex-div day, then if you were able to sell around 360p you would have only lost 75p per share but taken a 92p div to compensate and cover dealing charges. This could be profitable and maybe you could make £500+ for having £20k in play for a couple of weeks. However it is very high risk, and if the markets move against you - we must be due a re-trace from the FTSE being 5950 at some point soon - you could end up losing a lot more than you stand to gain!!! From IPR 's site 26/1: Subject to Closing occurring on 3 February 2011, it is anticipated that the Special Dividend of 92 pence per ordinary share will be paid on 25 February 2011 to shareholders (excluding holders of New Ordinary Shares) on the Company's share register on 11 February 2011 (the record date). On this basis it is expected that the Existing Ordinary Shares will trade ex‐dividend from 9 February 2011.

26/01/11: COMBINATION OF INTERNATIONAL POWER AND GDF SUEZ ENERGY INTERNATIONAL ‐ CLEARANCE FROM THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION. Further to the announcements on 10 August and 13 October 2010 regarding the proposed combination of International Power (the "Company") and GDF SUEZ's Energy International Business Areas (outside Europe) and certain assets in the UK and Turkey ("GDF SUEZ Energy International") to form an enlarged International Power (the "Combination"), the Board of International Power is pleased to announce that anti‐trust clearance for the Combination was received from the European Commission today. As part of achieving the clearance from the European Commission it has been agreed to divest the Company’s interest in the 420MW T‐Power CCGT project in Belgium during 2011. Closing of the Combination remains conditional upon, amongst other things, admission to listing on the Official List of the UKLA and to trading on the London Stock Exchange's main market for listed securities of the new International Power ordinary shares to be issued to subsidiaries of GDF SUEZ (the "New Ordinary Shares") and the re‐admission of the Existing Ordinary Shares ("Admission"). Admission is expected to occur at 8 a.m. on 3 February 2011 with Closing occurring shortly thereafter on the same day. Subject to Closing occurring on 3 February 2011, it is anticipated that the Special Dividend of 92 pence per ordinary share will be paid on 25 February 2011 to shareholders (excluding holders of New Ordinary Shares) on the Company's share register on 11 February 2011 (the record date). Investec raises International Power plc to buy from hold.

That oil find in Brazil certainly seems to have gotten the sp moving, up 83p since your last post, and now firmly in 'all time high' territory. If only they would increase their div to even average rates of say a 3-4% yield it would help the share upwards, and certainly make it more appealing to people looking for income. Another possible strategy they could employ would be to offer a 3 for 1 bonus share issue and reduce the sp to 350p making it appear better value. This is what BP have done over the years, everytime the sp has reached £8-£9 they have had a bonus issue and reduced the sp to £2-£3. If they hadn't done this they would now be trading at over £120 a share. It just doesn't seem right to invest £1000 in a company and to only receive 70 shares and a 1% yield!!

Have you ever spent any time thinking about your own part in this (so called) evil empire??? If you didn't support the miners getting the raw materials out of the ground then BAE would have nothing to build their planes, tanks or bombs with, would they?? And if you didn't support the oil industry they would have no fuel to run their planes or tanks on, would they?? I reckon that makes you just as culpable as anyone invested here!! Re-read your last post, you said "the gun certainly helps and its alot easier to kill large amounts of people when BAE can you sell you powerful bombs etc." well it's also a lot easier to make said bomb and fly it to the target when YOU are supporting the industries supplying the raw materials!!!! Maybe you need to re-think your whole investment strategy and just put your money into ALY and HWDN. Both have just had good rises so should satisfy your lust for profit, no-one gets harmed in the making of their products and they haven't - yet - killed anyone!!!

The shares have been suspended as CORE has agreed a reverse takeover deal with US-focused Core Oil and Gas. The article below is from Growth Company Investor. AIM shell Chalkwell Investments (CORE) has agreed a reverse takeover deal with US-focused Core Oil and Gas and raised £1 million at 45p. Bruce Evers, an entrepreneur with a background in resources finance who became executive chairman of Chalkwell in December, claims Core has gas assets in the Gulf of Mexico and Michigan with a potential value of nearly £59 million worth and will need a funding after the Chalkwell takeover to further their exploitation. Now suspended at 60p, Chalkwell, coincidentally formerly called The Core Business, emerged as a shell last year from the wreckage of an unsuccessful beauty products business. Evers, who was asked to run Core Oil and Gas last year, recalls one of the company's founders knew Nigel Weller and wheeler dealer Leo Knifton, both outgoing Chalkwell directors, and that led to the idea of a reverse takeover to tap AIM investors. Weller and Knifton are leaving in a boardroom reshuffle to reflect the company's new identity as as a resources hopeful. Evers says it will be renamed Core Petroleum and will be the UK holding company for Core OIl and Gas, which will be based in Delaware. Core's prime asset is a 33.3 per cent working interest in Mustang Island, a shallow gas prospect, only 70ft deep, 17 miles off the coast of Texas. Evers says the infrastructure is all in place, left behind by oil giant Chevron which drilled four wells there in the1980s, and indicates drilling will start shortly. Core is also ready to sign a participation deal next month for another prospect, Budde Ferry in Michigan. According to Evers, the company is also keen to look at other opportunities, 'in North America or elsewhere in the first world, not Russia or West Africa'. If these deals all go through, the shares, when they return from suspension, should have speculative appeal.

In case you hadn't noticed it's people who kill people, not a company that just happens to make the product. If the world wasn't full of murderous dictators, gang leaders, drugs barons, etc, it would be a better place for us all. If they didn't get their weapons from BAE they would source them from somewhere else or go around hacking people to death with machetes. And as for your comment that BAE "allow the extermination of people on an industrial scale" you need to get a life pal, as you sound the one that is in denial. Try looking behind the headlines for what is really going on, and don't believe everything the trendy lefties tell you. As Babbler2 said one day you may be very grateful for a BAE product that has saved your sorry butt from the actions of one of these brutal dictators. I shall continue to hold my shares for many years to come and watch my investment grow with time as I take my divs as new shares. My hands are clean and I sleep very easily at night.
